Tips for escaping slavery?
I'm pretty new to this game, this is my 3rd game and I picked the dog start, I spawned in some abandoned camp in the dessert, after looting the place, me and my dog ran east across the dessert for awhile until we came across a place marked as "Stone Camp" owned by the slave traders, I didn't know what to expect so I headed there. When I arrived, they seemed friendly enough, my doggo was hungry and so was I so I went into the bar they had there, but they were all sleeping. I noticed they had training dummies inside so I used one for the night, when morning came some guy ran down stairs and told me to get out of his face or he'd beat me up, so I ran away. Sad and hungry I decided to run outside the town to see what I could find, I saw a few manhunters killing some rebel farmers, so I ran over to check it out. They weren't bothering with me so I figured they wouldn't mind me helping myself to the loot. At first all was good, I turned to run back to the stone mine, the manhunters not far behind, then one of them shouts "She look like a slave to you?" some other guy shouts "Who the hell cares?" then a few moments later one shouts "Get that slave" suddenly all the manhunters turn hostile, kill my dog and take me as a slave! How rude! So now I'm enslaved in this camp, mining away in the sun.. How should I go about escaping? I know I can get out of my shackles and cage by picking the lock, but then what? The camp is small and walled with one exit, and it always seems to be guarded, how do I get passed the guards?! Any help greatly appreciated. (Also, why did they enslave me?! Is it because I looted the guys they killed, or is it actually because I looked like a slave?)

Someone can probably give you a more concrete answer on what variables go into it, but yeah, slavers will sometimes just go after you. I think it is if you are alone / weak compared to them and not a lot of others around, but can't be certain.

As for how to get out, well just running may work. Waiting until night or you are out mining where you can more easily run. A distraction can also help. If they get in a fight with someone, or if you have other slaves around with you why not pick their shackles? They can help or at least get attacked while you run off!

Or if you want to live the slave life for a while, you can train yourself up. Practicing your skills is another option, as the slavers often tend to you so you can just keep practicing (lockpicking shackles, stealing, attacking with your bare hands, stealth, assassination, toughness if you are beat down, etc.)

Manhunters will just attack anyone they see (they want those cats for selling someone into slavery).

As far as escaping, maybe you can sneak, maybe you can cause a distraction...

Well my first attempt at a break out with fellow slaves resulted in my left arm and leg being broken and eventually my left arm broke off.. xD I had released all the slaves in the room with me, probably 6 of them, but they just stood around as the one guard beat us all into the sand.. You think they'd fight back?! So now I'm a one armed slave with a crippled leg mining rocks. My chances of escape aren't looking good.

And now I was just struck for no reason and my left leg is gone! Wahhhh

I'm now forced to crawl everywhere right? I don't suppose the slavers will give me a robo leg any time soon? Should I just start over??

slaves have different personality but most are pretty docile and don't want to escape but you will occasionnaly find one that actually try to escape as well as unlock more cages and cause a mass escape.
I once got lucky and manage to get a few people that were glad I saved them and proceeded to save everyone else and it was a massive slog fest as the slavers were outnumber 6 to 1 lol

I suppose I'll start over with the new found knowlege of AVOID MANHUNTERS!

R.I.P. String and Bonedog, you will be missed.

Edit: I actually just accidentally quickloaded when trying to turn my UI back on and it's just before I lost my leg. They attacked me randomly again but my leg didn't fall off this time, so maybe there's a chance.. I don't usually savescum, but it's alright when it's by accident right?

Edit edit: Also why do they attack me? Are the slavers just really mean people, or do they harbor a grudge against attempted escapees?

Now there's a strange bug happening, when they locked us up for the night, there were two guys in my room actually picking their locks (which is pretty cool btw!) but now they just keep getting in and out of their cell, is this normal?? Are they guys I rescued earlier and now they're really confused?

getting in and out of their cell they might be shifting between I want to escape and I want to stay in lol

As a side note, if you find the very frequent limb loss a bit harsh, there is a setting in options to make it less common so they aren't just going flying all the time.

I had an issue in Sho Batol (spelling wrong) where a guard asked for a 200 cat bribe. When I selected "don't have that much money" I was attacked and enslaved. I tried getting away by picking the lock and doing a "runner" but just got the bejesus knocked out of me and back in the slammer again.

The way I got out was to simply picklock the shackles and then get one of my other troops to come in and carry me out. The guards don't seem to bat an eyelid if your being carried by another person so long as your not wearing your shackles. I use the same method if I have non-humans in the party going through HN territory. My humans simply sling the skellies or shek over the shoulder and I'm ready to join the the priests for prayer lol (under duress).

I picked the same scenario on one of my playthroughs, called the char Merle :steamhappy:

there are diffrent ways

train your athletic, by running around at night. (use empty houses or spots with no guards)
if the skill is high enough you can just keep running, preferably at night.

a other way is to wait for guards that killed/recovery coma by skimmers or other enemys, steal the stuff at night and leave the slaver camp.

Being enslaved was the best thing that could of happened to you. Think of it as receiving a scholarship to Master Thief University.
