Naming Characters.
What are some of you all's best naming schemes for new recruits if you use them? For example I have an all-hiver squad all named after chili peppers, so: Ancho, Anaheim, Reaper, Ghost, etc. This led to all of the pack animals being named after Mexican dishes: Burrito, Enchilada, etc. What themes to you use if any?

For humans, I'll sometimes use names that are connected to the personality or story of how they joined my faction.

For instance a poor holy nation outlaw wound up with the name "Red Terra" (red terror, accents are fun). She earned that name because of her firey red hair and terrible string of luck that has her angry at the world. I first ran into the poor thing on a fogman pole, both her legs were eaten off so I patched her up, carried her back to my outpost and gave her some cheap hiver robo legs so she could walk again. She thanked me but didn't join us because reasons, she wandered out the gate and right into a Holy Nation caravan on its way to my base (in the eastern side of the fog islands, so the HN likes to visit on occasion). Needless to say the paladins attacked her because "SKELETON!", she wound up losing one of her arms in the skirmish and wound up with a bounty because of the fight, they then picked her up to toss her into jail. I decided to send Crumblejon to follow her because this story was getting interesting. She then wound up being sent to a mining camp where she was beaten mercilessly every time she was concious because "SKELETON!", and was just having a horrible life. She wound up losing her other arm in one of her beatings. After watching this poor sod and her horrible luck for a week or so I decided to bust her out, this time she decided to join me. She now has 80+martial arts skill and heavy weapons, 70+ in all stats, masterwork KLR legs and arms, and takes her aggressions out on anyone that looks at her the wrong way.

Other characters get generic names based off bands or songs that I think fit their look and don't break the games lore too badly (stuff like Maxwell Murder, Tangerine, etc).

Skeletons are the only race that always gets custom names. I name them after robots from cheesy sci-fi B movies. My favorite is my little black skeleton, Buford (its from Ice Pirates).

I just use the default names until I meet a duplicate, then make name that fits into the lore, I usually try to keep it to one syllable

Im a dork. I write down every name I ever use for a character in every game in a book so I never use the same one twice. I also write down the playstyle like for RPGs or strategies so I never play the same twice. But for names I just think up cool ♥♥♥♥ but I give them all different names, not in themes, so they seem human.

My naming scheme is to not have a naming scheme. I'll often pick random names from the .bod2 import list in the character creator for shek and hivers 'cuz I don't know what they want to be called. Only a little confusion over who was the real Tengu.

Oh, some of us are nerds enough to do that. I am a chef for a living so I use things like that for

Oh, some of us are nerds enough to do that. I am a chef for a living so I use things like that for larger squads (265). I name my pets after sauces: Mornay, Espagnole, Velouté, and so on. The world's largest cities is one I use for my crew also, it works well. I was just curious of what other people might have used in a similar way. I am curious what else everyone else that does this uses, It seems like a fun topic.

Let me know, y'all.

My naming choices are a bit random or when I feel a name that would definitely match the character for me to look up. A bit of brainstorming and whether or not it seems to fit.

One example would be my long haired, redhead female Greenlander called Hildr. Even has the plated armor dyed with the reddish rusty color to match with her hair.

Main character is always named Badhands but I usually name everyone else with names from Kung Fu and samurai movies. Except for my bonedog named Charlie

I tend to name my starting guy after my son.

For animals I like Diablo II references, like a pack bull named Hollow Log.

Otherwise I usually just leave the names as generated, I do use a name adding mod so I rarely get doubles.

In my main playthrough I name my squad members based on something mechanical/tool related. Started out with a girl named Ratchet. Then recruited a guy and named him Lug then a skeleton and called him WD-40. xD

Newer squadmates include Motor, Socket, Gears, Axle, you get the idea :p only exceptions to this naming scheme are the unique recruits in my faction, Beep and Agnu.

I usually play an all-Skeleton group, of anything up to 100 members (with a custom game, modded and tweaked by myself). Bearing in mind, this was an older version, before crossbows and such, and I haven't been back for some time.

My games tend to revolve around Legion. A once-vast Skeleton empire of the Old World, which prospered and flourished continuously for many years until the genocide caused by the Holy Empire. Masters of weapon and armour smithing, that which rivals even the legendary Skeleton Smiths themselves.

I have one leader, typically called Genesis Prime/Alpha. An imposing sight, made to tower over most Shek. He wears armoured rags, and carries two 'Legion Armoury X' Nodachi on his back.

Alongside Genesis, will be a small group of his most-trusted comrades from the Old World, who have joined him to build a better life for all Skeletons (and seek retribution, should the chance occur):

Hex - A female Skeleton, something which people didn't think existed. She wears light leather, wields dual Legion longswords and is often unmatched in combat.
Burn - A survivor of the mass culling of his race. Wears tattered rags, carrying a Paladin's Cross. Using their own weapons against them seems somewhat poetic to him.
Codex - The oldest and wisest of all Skeletons, who carries the knowledge of the Legion Armoury and the long history of their race. He carries a Legion staff, also wearing armoured rags. Codex rarely fights, as he prefers research and development, but he can hold his own when the need arises.
Scythe - An assassin of sorts. He is one of few Skeletons with the ability to use stealth to his advantage due to his small frame. Once seen as a defect, Genesis quickly saw the potential Scythe had. Wears full ninja equipment, with a solitary Legion blade.

Then I have four different other types of varying ability and appearance.

Guardian - Enforcer style, mid-size, police gear with clubs of some sort.
Ravager - Ninja style, small, ninja gear with toppers.
Shogun - Samurai style, mid-size, samurai gear with katana and nodachi.
Colossus - Berserker style, huge, heavy plate gear with fragment axes.

There is a Prime/Alpha for each group. Any additional units are then simply named as such:

Guardian
Guardian II
Guardian III

And so on. The numbered versions of each unit are basic soldiers, without the full unique AI of the Primes/Alphas. Drones, if you will. These drones are slightly smaller than their Prime/Alpha counterparts.

Well, that turned into a bit of a story, rather than just a list of names lol.
