Escaping Rebirth
Tried starting out a new game last night as 2 slaves in Rebirth. I have escaped captivity a few times in previous play-through's, but damn! Getting out of rebirth is no joke. It isn't as simple as just picking a lock and running away - which has basically been my experience previously. Starting out with a brand new character; you are simply not going to get away easily, especially surrounded by mountains and guards on all sides...

I tried out the slavery start wanting more of a challenge, even though I have never even come close to experiencing the end-game content as of yet. I dunno, call me a mascochist, but starting out from the bottom end just seems like a bigger accomplishment once you get to that point where you have a huge base, stacks of equipment and millions in cats.

So after clicking on a new game as a slave, I decided it's more challenging to play with women instead of men (because HN). I proceeded to create 2 female characters with huge over sized breasts - because immersion - and then finally, click that 'ok' button (or is it start?).

You as the player, are then taken to the opening scene of Rambo 2 where Rambo (John.J) is covered in sweat, and toiling away in Fort Leavenworth after being prosecuted for destroying a small town in the first Rambo movie. Ok, so this isn't actually the opening scene to Rambo 2, but........it's pretty similar.

Anyway getting out of this prison isn't going to be as easy as volunteering to go on a one man suicide mission into Vietnam. NO... you are going to have to kill or maim a couple dozen guards, or develop insane sneaking and athletic skills which would permit you to sneak past and outrun; or at least at last them in a chase.

So last night after staying up until 12 AM to train my 2 slaves how to sneak and steal, I eventually stole just about every sword of every guard I could find. Eventually there were only a couple guards left who I couldn't steal from because they never slept apparently.

The plan was simple....using the guards weapons against them we would start a resistance...which we designated as operation "Red Dawn". Our hope being that we could isolate and ambush smaller groups of guards whilst avoiding combat with the entire force.

At that point I tried starting a fight with the guards hoping to beat them up in smaller groups, but alas, with ♥♥♥♥ skills it still didn't go that well. The strategy worked at first, but it was too hit and miss, ultimately we couldn't keep too many other guards from being alerted and joining combat. We managed to beat up quite a few, but the numbers in the end were just too much to handle for our 2 felons. Facing a half dozen guards who were unarmed, was a win win, but facing more than a dozen was suicide.

Operation 'Red Dawn' was a failure...At that point we decide to stop playing around, what were we doing here? we were risking it all just pretend we were American teenagers who were going to stop the Russian military from taking over our homes?! No, we were a couple slaves who had incredible stealth ability thanks to sneaking around for a couple weeks on end. We decided to use that ability and managed to sneak our way right past all gate guards an onto freedom.

Our next stop is a town called "the Hub" supposedly there is some sort of resistance that thriving there, or so we are told.

Ok - in all seriousness though, I was going to try and kill all the guards, or at least a lot of them, but with 2 slaves lacking in fighting ability it's just too hard. However, after leaving I am starting to wonder; did I make the wrong decision? I was fighting 99% un-armed guards, I could have probably done it, if I had been more patient with building up my fighting skills prior to escaping slavery. I may have ended up with 2 bad ass fighters If I had followed through on operation Red Dawn.

well, that was a pretty nice write-up there, i especially liked the detail about the oversized breasts.

what you describe in your second post, building up your fighting skills while enslaved is not a bad idea, in theory.
you could probably get some decent martial arts, dodging and toughness training out of the rebirth experience. also some lockpicking training by unlocking your shackles and subsequently some strength training, if you keep some of them in your inventory and run around overencumbered.

another detail you mentioned, being patient, would be important in this context. you'd get beaten up all the time and would have to wait for your guys to heal. also, if you get beaten down while being half dead already, you'd probably also be risking limb loss. and that would be a bit of a problem. so it would be a balancing act, get beaten up enough times to gain enough toughness/what have you, but avoid the beatings when you are too injured.

but i never really stayed enslaved for too long, so i'm not sure how well all of this would work out.

just continually practice lockpicking, stay in sneak mode at all times and consistently knock out anybody you have any chance to do so with.
then keep putting guards in cages and stealing their stuff / putting it in storage for your later break.
every night, break out and release as many slaves as possible (arm and armour them first if you can with what you've previously looted), and give them any medpacks you happen upon.
eventually theyll start breaking free of their own accord.

slavery is still free training for a lot of things, and some of us often send our squaddies into slavery to up specific stats as we get them.

for some reason when I try to break out slaves they always say "what are you doing? leave me alone" etc...and they won't leave their cages.

Some of them yes they just stay in their cage but do it to many and you will see the majority will be happy. I released over 25 from a reaver outpost and 14 of them joined me. I released many at a stone camp and another 8 joined me. 3/4 of my members are escape slaves which I called my faction. Born to be free. I even found a place where I don't pay taxes to anyone are just once in a while I get the reavers trying to come get some slaves but because to get to my gates they need to go through water they are easily cut down by my six turrets on the walls. Those six guys on the turrets I got them from the reavers I release from being a slave and they had already between 15 and 20 points in turrets. So if you want guys with fighting abilities not just ones in each go to a reaver outpost and release the slaves or even the ones you meet on the roads you can try to release and join you. But the outpost ones there is so many of them to release that you have a enormous chance many will join you.

Ok so I took some advice and went back to an earlier save. It is a ton of fun living in a slave camp, I have no idea why i wanted to escape so bad! I also discovered something funny, I can pick up guards who are sleeping *wtf?* and just drop them in cages, so thats pretty cool. A couple get released by most just stay there. Eventually I will lock them all up and only release them to use as punching practice. This is gonna rock!

when I did that rebirth slave start for the first time. I just picklocked the cage and ran out. The guard at the gate apparently didn't even try to stop me for some reason lol. It wasn't until I'm a good distance away that I picked the leg shackle off before running the rest of the way back to hub while avoiding HN patrols. My partner in crime didn't make it though. Died from blood lost after a single guard from one of the patrol caught her and left her for dead. Tried to save her with bandage but it wasn't enough to bandage the heavy wound.
I didn't even get into a cage; the moment the game started I went straight to the gate I've seen escapees use in my previous test of the start. Hid behind some terrain from a patrolling guard, and out I went without a single alarm.

From there it was to the Flotsam safe house, then to the ninjas themselves to start a new life.

Anytime you want to escape Rebirth, just sneak into the mountain paths at night, no patrols back there. Run back and forth for a few days unencumbered, and athletics will hit 40s pretty quick. Then just run out the front gate.

But for those who want to keep being a slave, UC slave farms are great for low risk, high reward. There is a food shop, the barracks bar has training dummies, and the guards pack slave friendly weapons, low chance of limb loss unless you engage the noble's samurai guards while unarmored.

I never thought about that, I have always kinda avoided becoming a UC enemy though. I am just partial to the UC for some reason.

Easy peasy.

Escape, but do not leave the camp, climb on a sideway pathway. Guards almost never go there.
Practice running.
When night falls, sneak into camp to steal food.
Rinse, repeat.

Sad thing is, when I "escaped" they guards let me go.... they just said "on your way".

WTF...

OP, did yah escape already?

Or is your laboring skill at 1,000 ?

Lol! I escaped! Me and my slave-mate. We had a good time, we spent over a month committing various crimes against the Rebirth Slavers whilst hiding out in the mountains during the day and causing havoc at night until we could get strong enough to run the gauntlet and escape for good. After knocking out guards and looting their swords, or looting them whilst asleep we managed to either kill or imprison everyone but the main gate guards, and we easily made our escape at that time - a month of sneaking around does wonders for your sneak skill.

We managed to free everyone (the ones that wanted it) and a few wanted to come along, but alas their wounds were too great and they were putting us in danger, so we had to leave them in the wilds.

The good news is that after a couple more months of training, recruiting and crafting while hiding out in mongrel as well as other UC territories we have managed to build up a squad of 9 decent fighters (mid 30s stats) and another 6 crossbowmen, and all of them kitted out with some of the finest crafted equipment in the world. As of now , we are on the cusp of returning to rebirth, as we are within a day's march.

The handful of pitiful gate guards we left alive will soon be joining their Rebirth brethren in the slave cages or within a shallow grave.
