However, a long weapon like a polearm in your question would be dodged if the character's in the middle of the dodging animation (invulnerability frames would be active). Basically, if an attack is directed at them while they're in the middle of the dodging animation they will not be hit no matter how badly the weapon clips through them.
There's a funny side effect to this, if a character swings a weapon so slowly due to low strength and an enemy dodges it, it's possible that the enemy's iframes run out and so gets hit anyway due to the slowness of the swing.
