Bast start
Title. Its the guy with a dog start. Problem is I can't seem to get far enough to survive for long. Nothing near enough to munch on as far as I can find and you start with a such a hunger level that I can't find food or what I need quick enough. Any advice from you super gurus out there?

There's towns nearby you could go to and get lucky stealing some food - but that's a big risk.
Plus, the dog may steal food for you, and get your dog killed as well as you.
I think that start with the dog is intended for you to kill the dog and consume it?
Could be wrong, but I played that start twice when I was new and never had any luck.

Never actually tried killing the dog. Don't wanna eat the poor critter if I can help it...this start was a bit easier back in the day iirc, because you had Blisterhill and an iron deposite close enough to be able to mine, sell and repeat until you were good to go.

I have not played that one, but I think I'd try to make it to Sho-Battai as quick as posible.

Like I said I never played that scenario so I just started it to see how it goes. Stoat is actually close and there is copper to mine there, so I headed that way and not very far at all the UC and HN were battling and there were bonedogs in the mix, so I harvested 3 of them and cooked it up and 3 game hours in we are eating.

also you can try to find a skimmers fight, if you dont know all the citys i recommend you get a "locations kenshi map"( i downloaded mine from kenshi wiki).

Made it to Stoat uneventfully, skimmers were hitting at the city gates, scavenged them till I saw a light out in the distance, it was a downed pack beast. He had ration packs and skeleton repair kits that I took and less than 20 hours in I had 16k, went and joined the thieves in Sho-Battai. Got a thieves backpack and a ninja blade. Went outside the city and there was a downed Sand Ninja Jounin with the usual, ninja rags, dark leather shirt, basket hat and 2 caton 3 katanas. That gave me a really good weapon for day 2 and clothes to be a thief. So I'm off to a rough start as you can see. Now what to do with that stupid dog!

Don't forget: each skimmer corpse has claws worth 5-600 cats, and no NPCs loot them.
If you are in a place where the gate guards fight them a lot, don't be afraid to scavange the corpses to get yourself going.

It is actually pretty easy, you just need to start out small. Keep an eye out for patrols to pass by, they come across rebel farmers who often have dogs in their squad. These dogs provide enough meat to keep your char alive. When these patrols pass by cannibals, there tends to be many limbs laying around the battlefield, point your dog over to a limb and he will grab it and run off. use the 'follow' command and he will hang about (or just pick him up and carry him around to build your early game strength)

This way you can keep your dog about (which i believe is 'the challenge')

the easiest part is, if you come upon a HN patrol not in a fight. With the right answers, they give you 1 ration.
i did 3 starts with this scenario. in my second one, there was a huge fight between HN and UC and i took one of the corpses and used it as a backpack, scavenging some nice belongings, then off to either worlds end or the UC cities in the desert.
In my third one, i went straight to uc and lived off the skimmer remains, now i want to restart a village in bast (my own sttlement), lets see how that one works out ;)

My strat is hang around bast, find a fight between HN and UC, steal the weapons of the loser, then run to Stoat and sell to get food.

From there the run becomes as normal. I tend to loot UC stuff (for nagitanas).

Honestly the hardest part of the run is getting food at start.

1 Start as a Skeleton and carry the dog to somewhere safe.
2 Run across a dead Skimmer and cook and eat it
3 Be human and have a Holy Nation patrol give you a ration pack
4 Go south into Holy Nation lands as a human where they don't care if you're poor and starving
