No place is safe?
I'm trying to figure out where's a good place to live. The current place was in the desert near the shek kingdom. Got harassed by many bandits and shek tribute. Now I'm asking if there is anywhere else that I could find to build a town without the harassment.

I lived in HN territory for some time. If you are all Human Males, they accept you and you only get hit by Dust Bandits and sometimes other enemies depending on where you settle. If places are too difficult to settle, then I suggest not building a base yet until you are ready. I have 5 dudes at the moment, one is in Sho-Battai focusing on Research while the other 4 explore lost armouries and Libraries. The idea of doing this is so that I have everything max researched.

If you have everything researched, you'll have impenetrable walls and gates, OP crossbows, and by then, some well trained people. I suggest getting a group together and training till your stats are all around 50-60, and with good armour. You can get amazing loot from looting, I am sitting at almost 2 million cats, and most of the armour and weapons I got are looted. Sell robotic limbs to make a fortune.

If you want free protection I suggest building where the hn and uc are always fighting. If something goes to you, they tend to take care of it.

If you wish to have no harrasment besdies the wandering crab or Beak thing, their is a area I can tell you about. To the right of Heng, and the right of the slave farm nearby their is the Blue ground on the map next to four rocks and sand bar leading to the big islande next to it. Build walls around the base and bam them issues are gone with the wandering Crabs and Beak things. Should be some copper and iorn around their too!

It's worth getting your groups fighting skills up if you want to be able to defend your base.

If you spend a little time training a group to fight (even if it's only 3-4) you'll be able to take out dust bandit groups fairly soon and that opens up the Border zone for you to settle, as well as loot to sell.

Apart from that, buying buildings in town and using them is about as safe as you can get early game.

If you want "safe" there is only one option, buy houses in Main cities like Blisterhill, Stack or Squin and such.
But those lack space, then next best Option is to Settle in The Hub, alot of broken buildings that can be bought cheap, enough there to turn The Hub into you personal base.

Once strong enough you can go out into the more prosperous area's that are to hard for a bunch of new guys to settle.
Currently settled my base near the Crater, with constant Beakthings, Band of Bones and Beserkers attacking.

I made certain my 5 guys where strong enough to beat these guys without much efford, now i am slowly building a small outpost here, to be able to fully explore the crater without to be retreating every time i encounter a crazy Nest with extreme spawns.
Placed a Large building in the vicinity, and turned it into a Nest Suppression thing, awesome BTW to train turret gunners.

Downside, it took about 50 ingame days to train my 5 guys to the point, they can Solo with easy, Dust Bandits, Swamp Ninja's and such.
Used to be more like build a base ASAP, then get owned by about everyone and everything, even got several times thrown out of my base.
Had enough of that, so i approach the game different, at first Nomad, then settle

I mostly use same strategy as Arran (poster above), dividing my gameplay in 4 chapters so to say:

1) train my 1st character as thief, playing solo, almost like rpg, 100% nomad
2) adding 3 more lads/lasses, forming 4 char combat squad (at this point I buy [ware]house in 1 of UC towns), I explore world, loot ruins, accumulate tech and valuable loot, meterials in, VERY extensive training
3) at the time when this 4 chars nuke almost anything in game, I start building fortified base with them
4) when perimeter established, i start adding new people (when they can be reliably defended), trick is 2 of combat guys always present to protect when (if) 2 others exporing/running errands.

By this steps almost every part of world is "safe", expect rare areas where most annoying and extensive spawn is present.

Generaly I can definetly RECCOMEND 1 SPOT.

In Skinners Reach (dusty area to E of Bad Teeth), just south from little lake, by the road. Location is great in logistical sense and NPC spawns pretty safe. Minerals are ok, water can be somewhat poor, but manegable.

I prefer the Fog Islands. They have increased the resources now, so it's much better than it was recently. Yes, the wildlife can get a bit noisy in the evenings, but it does tend to keep the riffraff out. I suggest you move there too.

Shem Is a good place to base, Nothing but beak things and dust bandits for miles. THeyre seem to be groups of starving bandits of 20-30 ussually though but theyre not much of a threat. PLUS theyre is a nomad Settlement there
