Go to Squin, which is southwest of The Hub and fairly close, the police station is open to the public even at night and the 2nd floor has Mk3 training dummies. These are the best ones and will let you train attack skill to level 15, just buy a few days worth of food and train. Being attack level 15 helps a lot against the lower level enemies.

After that if you see some bodies laying around grab one and walk around for a day or two, you can easily get to 10 strength with little time especially if you load lots of stuff in your inventory like iron/copper ore while carrying that body. This helps a lot with weapons that qualify for strength stat like the clubs you often get from early bandits.

Gain sooooo much faster not using training dummy and just fight hungry bandits and the like they dont normally beat you up too badly, get up heal rest repeat and after a short time your well over 15 in more than just melee other stats/skills will skyrockt. Training dummies are not very effiecient at all.

Yea, the only reason to use training dummies is when you have a larger squad and will be controlling other enemies, so it is faster than sitting idle.

Otherwise, just fight. Not only does it level your Attack faster, it also levels Defense, Toughness, Weaponskill, Dexterity/Strength.

Hehe so many years passed. for those who still plays the game or just started i’ll suggest mining and carrying very heavy pieces of iron or copper on your back around. then its a known way to drag bandits in to town and let guard beat them up. by that time you should try hitting them few times to get stronger. sell their cheap stuff, get enough for shinobi thieves and get allied. use their training stuff. get stronger. hire more people to fight with packs. buy house, build cages, do researches. capture high level enemies, heal them, put in cages. let one person fight him every day to get stronger.
i do suggest getting mods like training swords to give to prisoner and have it on you. use some weight bench mods if you want. and for final stage, get beat up a lot and be so strong to fight those bugs with -50 chest damage haha
also you can be using crossbows at begging too? just run back, shoot, run. cripple them, go beat up with bare hands, get martial arts skill :)

always have a dedicated medic waiting away from the fight, if your enemies are bandits fight them "to the death" aka till everyone on either side is down, wait for them to scatter if they are the victor and patch up everyone else.

you will rank up toughness and some combat skills in no time, you can also train up your medic with some stealth so they can sneak in the distance to further increase their usefulness since it means they can hide closer and heal sooner.

if you have sleeping bags this can help speed up training and healing massively, dont underestimate a good sleep and dont be afraid to buy a house from a nearby town if you can for naps, being roofed and in a city will increase your recovery process since enemies cant come along and beat you down again to soon unless they wanna antagonize the local guards

if the town has a local Shinobi guild, PAY THE FEE, the beds are free resting spots and you have people willing to defend you if you fight near them and even train alittle bit of attack on your beaten downtime on some dummies

You pretty much want to get beat up until your KO points are at least at -30 so you dont enter a recovery coma and bleed out. Then you want to wear the best armor you can with the worst weapon for the type you want and go get beat up some more. Eventually you will get strong enough that you dont get beat up. One of the safest ways to get beaten up is become a slave and break out and let the slavers beat you. Almost no chance of death or limb loss with the added bonus of lock picking, sneak, toughness, martial arts, dodge, mining, and athletics trains all while being able to essentially afk until the character reaches a "safe" toughness level.
It's an uphill battle until you can kill the weakest bandits, then you spend your time picking fights with stragglers or weak fellas. Before long you'll be chopping 4 heads off with one swing of a sword, or a fist if you go that route.

okay u have a weapon but you have prob very low skill with it, has others said u need to fight more and get your ass kiked, the thing is this can get u killed too, so be careful to who u pick fights with. A tip I dont see here much and for me is a huge help is hire mercenaries, they are very useful in early game, let them do almost all the fighting, get in there too to get a few hits but stay in safety and always watch your surroundings and be prepared to RUN if things go badly. iknow Mercenaries can be costly first, but u can get the money back by looting all the corpses they leave in the way. Also go buy some propper armor, it will be very costly at early game but it will reduce allot of dmg u take and protect your skinny legs

I would recommend against mercs honestly. Where as they are powerful they only hurt you in the early game. In the early game you want to be the one getting attacked to get dodge/defense and toughness, with mercs they take that away. They are also expensive as you said and that money would be better used in getting good armor so you dont die. I guess you could steal the armor but I just prefer not to. Mercs will also take loot, mainly medkits from defeated enemies so thats less healing and money for you.

Anyway this is a sandbox, what may work for some might not work for others, i find mercs to be essential in my playthrus wen starting off, there is no way u can face a big group of bandits with my 1 or 2 charaters at low level at the first days, that is just suicide. Mercs dont take away any experience from u, lol I mean u can join the fight at any stage and u should, its pretty safe way to get experience. Tbh i dont even find them expensive, its 4k cats for 2 days, its a good investment its pretty easy to get it back (unlike 12 or 14k for a decent armor kit)
