You answered your own questiion.
After that if you see some bodies laying around grab one and walk around for a day or two, you can easily get to 10 strength with little time especially if you load lots of stuff in your inventory like iron/copper ore while carrying that body. This helps a lot with weapons that qualify for strength stat like the clubs you often get from early bandits.
Otherwise, just fight. Not only does it level your Attack faster, it also levels Defense, Toughness, Weaponskill, Dexterity/Strength.
i do suggest getting mods like training swords to give to prisoner and have it on you. use some weight bench mods if you want. and for final stage, get beat up a lot and be so strong to fight those bugs with -50 chest damage haha
also you can be using crossbows at begging too? just run back, shoot, run. cripple them, go beat up with bare hands, get martial arts skill :)
you will rank up toughness and some combat skills in no time, you can also train up your medic with some stealth so they can sneak in the distance to further increase their usefulness since it means they can hide closer and heal sooner.
if you have sleeping bags this can help speed up training and healing massively, dont underestimate a good sleep and dont be afraid to buy a house from a nearby town if you can for naps, being roofed and in a city will increase your recovery process since enemies cant come along and beat you down again to soon unless they wanna antagonize the local guards
if the town has a local Shinobi guild, PAY THE FEE, the beds are free resting spots and you have people willing to defend you if you fight near them and even train alittle bit of attack on your beaten downtime on some dummies
Anyway this is a sandbox, what may work for some might not work for others, i find mercs to be essential in my playthrus wen starting off, there is no way u can face a big group of bandits with my 1 or 2 charaters at low level at the first days, that is just suicide. Mercs dont take away any experience from u, lol I mean u can join the fight at any stage and u should, its pretty safe way to get experience. Tbh i dont even find them expensive, its 4k cats for 2 days, its a good investment its pretty easy to get it back (unlike 12 or 14k for a decent armor kit)
Why ress a dead thread? lol
