I tried keeping the various foods in a chest for the recruitable prisoner mod. They kept eating all the bread out of it.
The only container they wont pull from is your research bench.
No, my other workers did because the storage chest as closer than the bread basket.
If I'm not mistaken animal can eat any food but they prioritized raw and foul raw meat I think. They'll auto eat if there's food in the animal feeder nearby or if there's anything to eat in squad mate's backpack. Or when you drop food on the ground. Or if you drop them inside any building with food lying around on the floor/counter.
They're not going to eat from backpack belonging to your crew on different squad. Must be on the same squad.
The way the mod works is you capture mobs. Then once they regain conciousness you can talk to them and try to recruit them. When trying to recruit them they will ask for certain foods at random. So to make thigns easier I put a storage chest in the room with them to hold the food so my people would not eat it (or so I thought.) Well the problem was they were eating the bread out of the storage container because the storage container was closer than the bread basket.
The same thing happens with the animal feeder. If they cna eat the food placed in the animal feeder they will take that food if it is closer than the bread basket.
So they do eat from storage chest. I think I've seen it happen with the animal feeder in a video recently. Wonder if that's a bug. Could be intended. lol
More of a side effect. Any unit who is hungry will first look to any container they have access to for food. That container can be a backpack, food store, chest, counter, whatever. The advantage of a food store container or bread basket is that they are a container a cook will dump food into.
