Polearms are HEAVILY under rated!

PROS:
+Deal as much damage as a Ketana, or more!
+Swing and block nearly as fast as a Ketana!
+Deal +DMG (Deal anywhere from +25% to plust %50!!!) to animals!
+Only one of them suffer from -Armor penetration! (the Naginata Katana.)
+Regular Polearms and Heavy Polearms have +30% armor penetration!
+All of them have more reach then the Nodachi and Naginatas swing nearly twice as fast!!!

CONS:
-The staff is nearly useless unless you are trying to incapacitate someone without them bleeding to death.
-Have nearly the same animations as all the other weapons but is held differantly.
-Are kind of rare, but you are almost guaranteed to find an MKIII Naginata or two in the Fog Islands

ENDING:
All in all this weapon class rivals the Ketana and puts the Hacker class to shame, i really have no idea why they get such a bad a bad rep, very good alt for if you don`t want everyone using Heavy weapons late game and using the method above i was able to get 5 people with MKIII weapons and combat skills in the high 20s going on 30s farming heads in just 30 in game days!

Pole arms are pretty trash for most things. Their damage does not keep up at all into higher qualities. They do comparable damage to the other "bad" weapon, blunt, without even the benefit of bleed less, hard to heal damage. They do less than sabres by a significant amount, and at high qualities, less than half the damage of heavy weapons for a very, very minor reach increase (and the naginata and basic polearm, which are the ones with the truly decent reach have even further reduced damage over the naginata katana and heavy polearm)

You seem to have not used the weapon very often. Try going against more groups, its better at that then single targets. Also its damage is comparable to a Katana but split between blunt and sharp, so in order to get the best damage you need DEX and STR.

My heavy weapon crew pretty much smashes groups in seconds. I heard pole arms were actually rated the worst, but in the end I think every weapon has its own advantages and places, except heavies. Heavies are the most difficult to get good with, require a lot of time for STR build up, but can easily lob groups to pieces or take down and slay single targets.

Martial arts is best for 1v1. It can beat any weapon.

Heavy Weapons do good in pretty much all combat situations.

Polarms are are best when outnumbered. However due to having speed equal to a Katana they can win against a heavy weapon 1v1 due to sheer speed.
