as ugly as it is deadly.
my turrets have access to all 3 doors due to difference of elevations.
two main gates plus a side gate to one of the towers, the AI enjoying going for harpooners as a priority, the side gate acts as a third gate, though it only defends 2 guys(with good combat skills to hold as needed, here there are 3 dudes, cause jobs get wacky)
the towers cover a lot of line of sight and allow to start shooting from a great distance as well.
the retribution of god made it to the second gate
EDIT: base is on the left, openland on the right
the corridor on the left is a classical kill box and leads to a 4th gate covered by another set of harpoons, but it is never used.
people really use this? :-/
come knock on my front door and say it to my face ;)
Using towers is a good idea as more height = deadlier turrets.
But I don't understand why you didn't built them inside your base ? If you build them so close to enemy raid, they will break in, no ?
It's my playstyle since Rimworld, I should say even since Warcraft 3. I like the idea of a well defended base that require less effort and damage to take, I want my home to be safe.
It's still not 100% safe as my engineers need to repair the gate and my turrets shoots through it, sometime doing an headshot to my engineers.
If you prefer to fight every raid in close combat, do like you want but don't judge me. I like to play this way.
It's a non vital part of the base and attracks ennemies like flies, they spend more time in the kill box that way, forgetting about the real gate.
my base looks like ♥♥♥♥, but i purposely build it that way(i' d be happy with prettier, but non flat land decides what orientation elements can be put in, sometimes even where)
the problem I could have(and have not) is turrets shooting INSIDE the base, I want them to shoot at ennemies, not kill my guys, the tower in the kill box insures that no one ever ever never ever gets inside my base.
I carefully put every element to be optimal(though it looks like ♥♥♥♥), you simply can not have one set of turret shoot at 3 gates on flat land, I build in mountains for the strategical advantage of different elevations, which allow, with a few trick, to have my turrets shoot at three gates, without ever having to micro nor move my harpooners.
my layout is planned so I never have to repair and have accidents, the ennemy just spends more time in the kill box than in any other classical layout, and that is enough, I have 4 gates, 3 covered with the same 10 turrets.
I put 10 beds and a food storage so I can lock 10 peoples up there forever, It's really good to shoot enemies from afar, maybe I should focus on more towers. Though it need more testing against big raid.
But there's a bug. When I open the big gate, my repair squad comes out to unlock the door of the tower, then comes back in the base ? I don't understand why.
i just set enemy squads from 1 to 0.8 and don't bother myself to build such barricades
it's not a RTS
Why do you want people to play the way you are playing ? Do you have objectively the best taste in the world so everybody must listen to you ? Let people enjoy the game, it's a SANDBOX game, they are free to do what they want, free to add every mod they want.
Like 1x multiplier.
And 30ppl maximum in player faction.
But you make your life easier, putting 256ppl mods and other cheesy things into game.
And then you show it to others like "look at my cheesy base, my 10-15 turrets just pierce everyone coming in, i'm a tactical master!"
And then you say thats the way you enjoy the game.
Nice. Cool. Great you have fun!
Said the guy that reduce raid squad. :)
You say devs had made things optimals but you changed thoses things to your taste. You tell me that cheesing is a shame, but you do it yourself, with or without mods cheesing is cheesing, why are you bragging about it ? Of course you don't need a bigger team because you have reduced the number of enemies in a raid.
If you want to prove your point and add something useful to the thread, then show how you defend your base using only turrets with 30 or less people against at least a default 1.0 enemy squad, really not that hard.
Bulls are good at base defence.
so you still have 10+ people for your turrets. but in this case turrets are only defence you have if your strikers not good at melee.
