Losing limbs on purpose
Assuming you have the cash, has anyone purposefully tried to lose their limbs in order to replace them with superior robotics?

Playing an all Hive game right now; seriously considering it; not sure of the downsides. They all practically lose their limbs anyway; might as well give them some nice Skeleton limbs. Or KLR haha.

There is one place where you can get your random limbs cut off, but it is dangerous, and if you survived and beat a certain person, you ... better to not spoil anything. Suffice to say that you can get your limbs cut off in a safe environment if you did something near somewhere. The point is, yes I considered getting my hive characters' limb cut off using a thing.

i think I saw an option in either creating the game or in options where you can increase chances of dismemberment.

Yes, I've done it many times, successfully. I suspect the reference above is to a certain method, for which you need a certain, er, nevermind, that's a spolier.

I do it by taking prisoners and keeping them in cages, in a section of my base that is behind another internal gate. You need this gate to be closed, so that when you fight your prisoners, everyone on the base doesn't rush to assist.

It's best to try and lose your legs first, as they are last to be healed by first aid. Put on only armour for your head, chest and arms, leaving your legs exposed ( A tin can or samurai helmet, samurai armour (or plate jacket) and chainmail are ideal for this), then release the prisoner and start the fight. Give them something like a Catun #1 wakizashi - not too good but not that bad - it needs to do some cutting damage, but not enough that could get some freak damage in to the wrong parts of your anatomy.

Have some squad mates standing by on 'hold' with first aid, and to 'pacify' the enemy when they put you down. Ideally, you will have several prisoners you can rotate for this purpose. Continue until you get bleed damage with two chevrons <<, and eventually, your legs will fall off when they reach negative whatever your max health on that limb is.

Repeat with arms when you have your new legs, wearing only leg and chest armour. Samurai boots and leg plates, with a holy chest plate and leather vest are ideal.

EDIT: and yes, turn up the dismemberment setting to max.

peeler machine mod did the job for me, just yesterday I went full cyborg, it was my long time goal, now I can buy all the types and swap them as needed, looking only for at least specialist quality

I was told to lose limbs too by veteran players, better base values for combat to come from the prosthetics you can get.

This game is not realistic!

I like my arms and legs right where they are :)

Be careful, losing both legs and replacing them with new ones will make you unable to kick if you were a martial artist(big deal), and not able to wear shoes too(this one is no big deal)

Heh didn't know that having robotic legs makes you unable to kick. I'm a body purist, I actually get pissed if one of my guys loses a limb. Makes fighting hard enemies (like the ****ing cleanser units) painful.

replacing limbs is nowhere near required, and comes with a number of downsides,
for starters:

as a secondary issue, prosthetics function like a skeleton's limbs, you need the more expensive robot repair kits to fix damage, and you'll have to deal with wear-and-tear eating up it's max HP.
in addition, almost all limbs carry penalties and wearing even one will make Holy Nation soldiers attack on sight! (might count as contraband if they're unequipped in your inventory too)

The easiest way to lose limbs is fight skeleton spiders.

They deal 90ish damage to unarmored limbs. For hives, one clean hit is enough.

No my goal is not to be a handicap, and why would i want to lose the limbs god gave me to replace rebotic ? I don't care how much more powerful I will be. I rather be human than a robot or an invalid.

I've seen robotic limbs with 450 HP from a loot chest.

450hp is nothing to scoff at if you want to build a tank.

If god exists; I don't they did any favors giving the hivers such weak limbs. Robotics will do nicely thank you.

I have a martial artist with robotic arms and legs, and she does flying kicks all the time, so I dunno what's going on here.

I found a certain location that has a big building full of enemies, then another building off to the side with a peeler in it. It's usually unguarded or only has one guy in it, so to get the limbs off my peeps I usually sneak in > knock out the guy if he's there > take off the clothes of the dude I'm peeling > throw him in there > second guy rescues, bandages, and replaces limbs on the guy when they fall off.

Then you can just run out, because your new robot legs let you run at 48 mph

Maybe one of my mods affects it or something but I can kick just fine with robot legs
