Chain shirts and full Chain Mail: What is the point?

Something I noticed while playing lately is that short sleeve chain and long sleeve chain both cost the same, yet the short sleeve exposes the arms, while the long sleeve provides proper coverage.

considering the importance of coverage, it kinda makes me wonder why anyone would want to buy a short sleeve chain shirt when you could get a longer sleeve version for the same price, giving you better protection and increasing one's odds of survival.

Is there a use for short sleeves that make them worth getting?

The shirt has less weight...and if your armor has high to perfect arm coverage anyway then may as well stick to the shirt for extra protection of the vitals.
Pretty sure the dex penalty is smaller as well.

There isn't a point really. If you aren't willing to use the straight up long sleeve shirt for the defence then there is no reason you'd use the short sleeve over the leather turtleneck.

Not every bit of armor or weapon made was the best in the end.

Beside the level of protection and weight Theo & loubre mentioned before:
Simple for the looks!
Point of view in regards of RP: Running around in a desert with long or short sleeves... well, just guess which you'd prefer!
