Kenshi

Does this game seem too easy?
It seems like the optimal strategy is to just stay in a town, let the guards kill everything that wanders nearby, roll in the cash, and never leave. I wish there was a mechanic that would require you to venture out, like having to pay taxes for property, or entrance fees every time you pass through a gate.

The thing about forcing you to leave the town is then there'd need to be a well defined difficulty curve around when you're forced out into the world. In a game filled with so much freedom that feels counter intuitive. As is you should want to explore when you feel like you've got a fair chance and understand the basics which means the pacing is more relevant to you personally.

you do need to venture out for higher tech, and most of the ruins are taming with things that want to kill you

The beauty of this game is that you can play it like you want to. If you wanna stay in the town like a citizen then go for it. If you want a hard time, try starting as settlers and build your own town.

Or don't stay in a town at all and just roam the world

you can't get advanced tech without hunting for artefacts, if you build an outpost (required to automate food production and manage your own manufacturing self-sufficiently) then every local faction will want a piece of that action and if you never fight you'll never be able to fight. it's pretty clear that you're very early game, yes it's pretty easy to find ways to get through the early game, but once you're doing more then just surviving the game can get more interesting.

When you don't know how it works, Kenshi will kill you within minutes, if not seconds, after starting a game.

However, Kenshi can be extremely simple to survive in, once you know the ropes, because you can outrun anything, once you get a short bit of training and the world is full of "allies" to drag your hunters to, if you know who and where to find them.

Sure, Beak Things are fast, but as long as you know when to dodge and have a bit a swimming trained up, they can't hurt you either and are relatively easy to escape from.

But, at the end of the day, you have to fight if you want to get better, you have to get hit if you want to be tougher and Kenshi allows the player to set the pace and do this when/where/if they want to.

So yeh, it goes from being difficult to last for 1 minute to no challenge surviving, once you know what's, what, but it's completely up to the player, just how challenging it will be from there.

The economy basically works the same way.

There is , if you want to progress with research you need to find Ai Cores or even Artifact books.
You can't advance your settlement , your shop without those.

So in fact by living in a city all the time, you lock yourself out of the end game content and the sense of achievement.
Sure you can stay , but most players won't stay , because there's sufficient incentive to explore.
The type of player that likes to stay in town forever , would uninstall after 5 minutes of playing, we're all masochists that enjoy being eaten by beak things.

I mean you can always stay in the town forever, withing the safe wall and make a living of crafting and mining coppers. Just like in every rpg out there, you can always afk in the starting zone, without venturing into dungeons or whatever the game has. It is up to you.

So you just thought this game is about staying behind walls, and not finding other cities or villages or ruins ? Leave your comfy zone, and see the world :D Make the best weapons and armour, and go out and fight, and learn the politics and mechanics of the game.

Go be a thief or even an assassin if you want
