Getting multi isn't a bad idea if you have the power, good gunners, and room on your walls/buildings. I think they shoot like a minigun, so that can be good when ♥♥♥♥ gets dicey and later on when you're getting invaded by whole armies of bad guys.

I now wish i had expanded the screenshot. My gunners are all in the 90s. They hit this guy a good distance away from my gates. Think twice the length of the diameter of an outpost 4. I'm not sure if this was from my turrets or one of the harpoons, but they're all pretty OP with a skilled gunner.
I have another image in my profile showing a complete slaughter of swamp raptors. I'm thinking gunner skill is more important than the type of turret (though i haven't had anyone attack with decent armor)

Since turrets is difficult to skill up (due to the lack of opportunities), I tend to go multi barrels.
I don't like having to micromanage food so i'm using a no hugner mod, giving me the luxury of having 4-7 guys used solely for base defense. But like Zacman said having skeletons avoids that issue if you do enjoy the hunger aspect of Kenshi. They barely ever get used seeing as there's a lack of opportunities, at least for now, but when the occasional Gorillo or Beakthing pack attack my gates they rattle them down in seconds.
Erei I think you are partially correct since the multishot is harder to reload depending on turret skill, takes a lot longer the lower the skill, but it's more forgiving due to the number of rounds per magazine/clip. I think the crossbows are the best in that respect since they're like down the middle in accuracy, range, damage, reload speed, and forgiving to lower skilled characters.
Doctah I love that picture lol.
i have a mix of all, just cos.
