Arach journies.
So many spiders, so much pain. My poor hivers always take such a beating whenever I come here. How do your units fare?

I pretty much avoid this entire area until I have a squad of about 10 veterans in full specialist / masterwork heavy armor set and edge 1 weaponry minimum, tho once I reach that I like bring a dozen fighter recruits or so with a few veterans to ensure they'll never be in danger of dying and then find a spot somewhere in there to setup a small walled off camp and just fend off waves after waves after waves to train up all the recruits.

Desert sabres. Your sabre weilders can make a bit of a difference here, what with the damage boost. They strike quick enough (unlike heavies) to wear them down, given decent skill. I usually put a base right on the border between the Spider Plains and the Swamp. No walls. Regular spiders, occasional Kral's/beserkers, Red Sabres, Swamp Ninjas, and Swamp Raptors. Tends to build up a squad's combat skills right quick, those that survive.

Squad of five in the mid forties, with Mk II/IIIs and better than standard gear is fine as long as you keep moving. If you're slow, you want around fifteen and same, so you can carry your downed guys. At least, that's been my experience.

I went in with 19 hivers all with Edge 2 desert sabers and wakizashis and Specialist or above armored rags to let them keep their combat speed multiplier. Of those, only one of them was a prince and the rest were soldiers, so armor is on the scarce side because of the restrictions for hivers. All the soldiers had 85 strength so they could output some good damage, with the prince being the lowest at 80.

Only one got KOd before the bugmaster, so I had to backtrack to the nearest camp to recover. But against him, he managed to KO 10 of my soldiers due to the lack of head armor.

Now I am hiding on the top floor waiting for them to heal enough to get out of this place. But hey, got a fancy new weapon for my Hive Prince.

Edit: Just found out Hivers can eat human teeth. My concern for my food supply is slightly lessened by this discovery.

I usually have a better time getting in than out. For some reason, I have no issue avoiding hte spiders on the way in. And I don't even fight. But when I want to get outside ? Oh boy, that's a lot of spiders. A lot.

Yeah, I had that issue trying to leave too. Had to wait 6 days for one of my soldier's to be able to run again, and since I was waiting in stealth, he now has 85 thanks to stealth penalties.
