Noob question on Griffin and unique NPCs in general.
Hi,i just got the game and I am trying to understand how things work.
I found Griffin but off course was too poor to recruit him, than i saw him fighting the guards (holy guys) and falling unconscious. I loot him but than I haven't seen him around after that.
Why did he pick up a fight? He seemed a nice guy...
Can these NPCs die or are they protected like in skyrim? Do they respawn?
Also...do they DEspawn if not interacted with?
I tried to look for Griffin related topics but couldn't find an answer, sorry if it has been already been discussed:-)

IIRC he is actually of the Drifter faction, like most (all?) other recruits. Lately the HN have taken to purging Drifters in my games, so if you want to recruit them, you can do it while they are in jail, then wait for the bounty to expire/pay it off, or pick them up when they are unconcious and take them somewhere safer. (don't kidnap them though)

This may mean paying attention and using first aid so they aren't killed. They don't "despawn" per say, that I have seen. They can die, sometimes they will just be somewhere you don't expect, like in jail, or in the bakery, or standing on E street.

Now that you've looted him, how will he react? I cannot say, it may be with no armor, when he awoke with low health, and the HN guards attacked him again, he was killed, and you are to blame.

They die, nothing is immortal. I cant help but point out how horrible of a design choice that was for Skyrim/Oblivion.

If you import your game, yes.

Coudlent say, to me all NPC's are just generic names and statistical numbers at this point.

Dead Corpses do despawn after a long time I believe.

One must write for information, entertainment is that extra effort that may put a smile in someone's day. That smile puts a smile in my day, cheers man.

Hey guys thanks for the answers,I am going back to see if he is in jail or getting drunk.
How am I to blame??He is the one who picked up the fight with those badass guys, not me!;-)

He is likely to survive several beat downs when armored with his normal leather gear. You can use this to your advantage. Gear up a handful of low stat recruits who like to fight the HN with solid cheap armor so they will take a few more hits, and are very slow, before recruiting them.

Carry them all to Stack, and set them down inside somewhere away from a gate. Start your small research bench/whatever production you like to do in small shacks, occasionally dragging your future recruits back inside the gates.

When ready to leave, hire on the ones that have made substantial gains in toughness. They may also have some strength, dexterity, and dodge to go with it.

I call it my pretraining program.
