Game won't start?

Every time I try to start the game, it runs a "first time setup" for about 5 secs and then stops. My portrait gets a green frame for a few seconds, then it vanishes. And that's it. I've tried validating the files, I've tried uninstall-reinstall, but nothing seems to work. Any advice? :( I did pay $1.39 for this but I've been wanting it for a while and would really like to play it :( Any help is much appreciated!

Got the same problem here. I just run it, shows the message that the game is starting, then it stops.

If you are getting the "first time setup" repeatedly and the game not run, some of the dependencies may not have installed successfully.

Running the Steam client as administrator (right-click icon -> Run as Administrator) may fix the issue. If not, try installing the dependencies manually.

You can find the installers from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Pit\_CommonRedist

1) Install DotNet/4.0/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe
2) Install XNA/4.0/xnafx40_redist.msi

To be safe, restart your computer.

Ok, i tried the fix you recommended, and when installing the XNA data, i received error code 2908. What Do?

Try the following:
1) Uninstall .net 4.0
2) Restart computer
3) Install .net 4.0 as administrator (if it says repair/remove, then repair)
4) Restart computer
5) Install xna 4.0 as administrator
6) Restart computer

No luck with anything. I've tried the fixes you said, but the problem is the XNA/4.0/xnafx40_redist.msi isnt installing. When i try to install it i get the error 2908 message and it takes a few clicks befor it will dissapper and i get a new error message. Installation of assembly 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Avatar,fileVersion="4.0.30901.0"......ect (i have the rest written down if you want it). I want to play this game.

Sorry for my english but i solved the problem by completely removing the game. Then I installed it again. And i bought supplement: sword of the stars the pit mind games. That's all.
