SHARING/SAVING BRUSHES: Steam Version
How to install a downloaded brush

In order to install or share any brushes in the Steam installation (or non-Steam intallation) of Black Ink, you first need to create a brush in Black Ink and save it (you can copy a default brush and save it too).

After you have saved your first brush, you UserBrushes directory will be created. You can find it in your steam folder (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common). Locate the Black Ink folder and then open the Datas directory and you will see your UserBrushes folder there. Mine is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Black Ink\Datas\UserBrushes)

In the UserBrushes folder you will see a file type of .bkbrush, these are all of the brushes that you have created/saved.

Now the fun part, go to the Black Ink Brush Exchange Forum http://forum.bleank.com/viewforum.php?f=20 and download some new brushes and add them to your UserBrushes folder and enjoy.

Please follow the forum rules, etiquette, etc. While you are there, might as well sign up so you can share some brushes too.

Here are the rules for sharing a brush from the forum:

- Take a snapshot of the brush preview or draw a sample picture to show people what your brush do

- When posting, use the "Upload attachment" tab at the bottom of the page.

- Find your brush in Black Ink brushes folder.

Once again, you can enter this line in a windows explorer for a quick access to the folder:
%appdata%\Bleank\BlackInk\UserBrushes

- You can attach your sample picture the same way but hosting it elsewhere and posting an image link will make your submission look a lot better :)

- Submit and tell your friends to come and try out your brush!

I hope this helps some of you all.

Have fun :B1:

Great explanation thanks :D

Hm, perhaps a Black Ink workshop could make this easier?
(not that it's particularly hard, but you know, it's a ready made one-click sharing system and all_

If the devs add it, I will use it.

I hope it's possible to have Steam Workshop support aaandd still use the other way said here.
Also, what would be handy, me being used to photoshop, would be if you could just drag and drop brushes and have it relocate or duplicate that brush into the UserBrush directory.
Helusay Sep 10, 2013 @ 8:13pm
Whenever you make a change to a brush, it automatically makes a duplicate of the original brush with your changes, you just have to save the duplicate and it goes into your UserBrush directory. :B1:
if they could have an integrated brush sharing server or something, that would be cool. Sorta like how garry's mod has the toybox where you can download community made content while in the program.

@Silvasquirrel

Yes we will have this useful feature.
We have already designed this functionnality but first we need to do an update of the brush manager and develop it.

Thanx. CrossHatch.bkbrush might come in handy :)

Hey cool you explained that! I was just playing around with the brush tool when I wondered if you could share stuff.
Downloaded some brushes to play around with and registered. If I ever create a nice brush I will share that!
Really cool.
