Is it worth it?
Im a student, I've only recently started digital painting however (using Photoshop atm) but I was wondering if this is worth the buy to just muck about on? Whats everyone's general opinion on it so far for both casual and professional use? It looks like it has some decent potential from where I stand at this point. Just wanting to know how people have found it before I spend what little money I have haha (:

I think there is a demo (last 2 hours with no limitations, i think) that you can download.

But it is rather limited currently, although there are many promising updates that will be happening.
Anyway I don't really have much opinion on whether you should get it, since I never really bought other painting programmes before.
Btw how much did you get photoshop for?

You can rent any adobe program using creative cloud, not pay for updates, for like dirt cheap. Google it.

If you're a texture artist or digital painter it's well worth it even at this stage. When it comes to line drawings, it's not really faster or better than photoshop, but the way the brush editor works (takes a few hours to get to grips with, and I'm still learning) lets Black ink perform in a few ways that Photoshop doesn't, and IMO actually helps you work faster. I bought it just for the one feature: image based colour, which is a cross between photoshop's clone stamp tool and brush filters. Just for that it's well worth it, but (once you get to grips with the brush editor) it just has a more intuitive feel than PS. I've worked in detail with brush settings in PS, and yet I already feel confident that I can get more out of Black ink once I've put the time in to learn it.

Photoshop is not the application to compare it to. Photoshop has pretty crude brush algorythms and draw features, as editing images and not creating them is it's focus. If you want to compare this to other software that actually share some of it's functionality, you want to talk Corel Painter or something in that family of applications.

Subscribing is NOT cheap... It adds up... $5 a month may sound cheap, but after a year you have bought this at it's current price, after 18 months you have paid for it at full price, and after a decade, you have paid for the full professional level software you are actually subscribing to plus all the major upgrades.... Yeah. $5 may sound cheap, but $5 + $5 + $5 + $5 + $5 .... is a LOT more than $5.

You can download and use ANY and EVERY adobe program when renting, you use a program called "creative cloud" similar to steam that's unlocked after you pay.

Oh, and there's no way you can pay off 30 or so adobe programs and 100+ extensions (free with renting) in 18 months. Hell with updates. In 18 years even.

Totally worth it.
And if you ever figure this stuffs not for you, well then, you lost 15 buck or so. Not 44, or 90 when the sale for this ends.

Pretty sure it's free for the first month.

You aren't getting access to everything for the $5 I gave as the example... I was going intentionally dirt cheap to emphasis my point, and I wasn't saying you get what you are renting after a year I said you could buy THIS after a year, as in Black Ink, the program this forum is about.

I said that within 10 years you have paid for whatever program you are renting, plus all upgrades.

In order to get everything, discounts aside, you are talking $50 a month... That's $600 in a year (enough to buy any one of the abode products in it's professional package) and $6,000 a year which is enough to have bought the ENTIRE Abode Master Suite and a couple upgrades so I stand by my price comparisons... What's more, you MUST make yearly commitments to get that subscription, so you aren't going to pay $50 for 1 month and then give it a break... It's going to cost you $600 over a year to get into the full package at all.

In the end, this isn't a deal... This is called a payment plan.

Discounted... 29.99 is a DISCOUNTed price.

It's an introductory, first year price... You won't keep that price for long... And it's $50 a month with anual commitments and $80 a month to be month to month.. You will end up paying a lot more than you currently are.

There's three subscriptions you can have.

I believe I have the cheapest.
There's also gold and platinum.

Now that I think about it. Pretty sure it's every THREE months...
Three, six, or a year... And I think it gets cheaper for the more time you choose.
Wh1ppet Sep 7, 2013 @ 7:00am
Cheapest is NOT access to EVERYTHING... And $29.99 is the Full Access Introductory price...

Sheesh.

It's funny that that this creative cloud discussion evolved since I thought about getting it but now after reading a bit I rather think about it a bit more.
Stimpy Sep 7, 2013 @ 7:09am
I just bought it. And yes Grimmy, we all now know that you like Photoshop from cloud a lot more and yes, we know u think it isnt a good deal to buy BlackInk. And please, stop advertising Photoshop for once. Will ya?

And now, my question: Some of u guys using BlackInk got some resources I could learn from? My skill level is beginner to advanced.
Stimpy Sep 7, 2013 @ 7:25am
