They've ruined a classic!
They've ruined the game!! Completely!!

Where is the soundtrack??

Why put human-like grunts instead of the old ones?

Why is the frame rate so choppy?

Why are the controls so busted?

Why the hell are the sound effects worse than the older versions?

Why were the most challenging parts of the game taken??

Whoever made this anniversary version, let it be known, you've butchered a classic!

* The soundtrack is the same as the original Amiga / PC game. Music tracks were added on the consoles version. The author prefer his game without music.

* aren't the aliens the same as on SNES? Looking at screenshots, I don't see a difference.

* the frame rate is the same, or better as the original. Around 10-15 fps.

* what's wrong with the controls?

* you can choose in the options either the original or the remastered sound effects.

* the game in "difficult" mode is more difficult than the original. Sure, there are more checkpoints.

There is an enhanced soundtrack which was released with the "Another World - 15th Anniversary Edition - The Definitive Collector's Edition" in 2007.

Seems too many people are basing their expectations on ports of the original Amiga game. That added things that weren't present in the original game.

True.

This soundtrack is present as bonus material.

- By the soundtrack is the same, you probably mean THERE IS NO SOUNDTRACK, just a lame upbeat music at the end of the game. Really? For real? I don't care what the author SAYS he prefers, just look over the Internet and check people complaining about the lack of music. That goes also for everything else so don't interpret me as a sole voice.

- The aliens look the same, it's their voice I was talking about. They moan as if they were young men. I really prefered when it used to be something darker, like a growl.

- Funny thing about the frame rate. It used to be choppy on the consoles, but inside the water, it used to improve. Now it's the opposite. But still, a lot of gunfights are frustrating because of this. The game is not constant! Suddenly, it drops. At least on the consoles it was slow all the time and after a while you got used to the crap factor, and it bacame kind of cool. Here, we have a poor man's version of a modern indie game.

- What's wrong with the controls? Nothing, aside of shooting not working properly, having to be extra careful with moving around cuz if you don't you may run in front of your shield and get shot. This list goes on. You gotta play the game in order to understand control, can't explain.

- Remastered sounds are lame. Really, remastered my a**. Or you do a great digital work, with AAA sounds or leave it at the door. The sound is lousy, period.

- I played the game in the difficult mode and it surely didn't feel harder. But maybe this one was just my impression and you're right about this one.

My friend, do you work with this game? Do you represent the company or something? Or are you just a fan? I'm curious cuz it sounds like you're defending using arguments of a person who hasn't played the game, but learned the answers. I'm just saying it sounds like that, ok? No offenses, I like people who take a position.

SNES fanboys anyone? Having played the game first on PC back in 1992, personally I think the Music that they ADDED LATER ON to the SNES & Genesis ports sucked anyway...

I've never been a SNES fanboy, nor the SNES version of this game fanboy. I'm an Art fanboy. I'm a good game fanboy.

Respecting your opinion regarding the music (which you say it sucks), let me share with you that I'm a composer. A "classical music" composer, for the laymen. So, I work everyday with stupid concepts such as artistic representation, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, originality, artistic rethoric and other BS concepts. Let me tell that, IMHO, we are talking one of the best of the best game OST ever. The chase music really puts you in the mood, the low piano piano which is further developed in the cave song, the gorgeous opening (which is also lacking) and the beautiful credits music. I know a lot of game OST, and I do mean a lot. I don't care if the original was muted, with the OST is better. Apocalipse Now Redux is a much worse movie than the original, and it's supposed to be the Director's Cut. The last version of Sibelius 5th Symphony is the way he wanted it to be, but the audience hates it, everyone prefers the first version. It's pretty clear to me, after reading in forums after forums that we the people prefer the game with soundtrack (except you, of course). But, again, I just saying all this this is just IMHO.

But don't call me a fanboy. That's rude.

No, I just said that to mess with you.

Oh ya, good for you then.

Ya, sure, the music in the SNES version is great, I still own the SNES port of the game, as well as the Sega Genesis port of the game, but that's certainly no reason to attempt to hurt sales of this 20th ediition because you feel like throwing a little tantrum because the developer and co-developer didn't feel the need to remaster the SNES version, instead opting to remaster the Art of the original (and much loved) Amiga version ...not only rude, but quite childish as well.

I love the snes version's music, but I find it just runs way too slow compared to the original. It would have been nice to have the music as an option, but you can't please everybody.

Ther snes version is pretty cheap and easy to come by nowadays anyway.

What's funny about all this discussion is that when people (or kids, as I believe it's the case here) stop having intelligent arguments they start throwing ad hominen arguments. I think it's easier to call me childish, fanboy and to imply I'm boasting about being a composer. I'd prefer if we had stick to the subject, but it's common nowadays people wanting to offend or to be funny, instead of having a rational and fun debate.

So, when it gets to this point, I like to quote Eric Cartman: "screw you all, I'm going home".

Later.
Missing Sequences Sep 26, 2013 @ 1:14pm
this version doesnt have the music that was added later on from the original release? and this means butchered a classic?

flawed logic is flawed.

no one is spewing ad hominem arguments, and the only one calling anyone childish here is you. No one implied you are boasting about being a composer, honestly it seems no one cares quite honestly. We have all merely pointed out that the game doesnt include a soundtrack that was added to the game after its initial release, which hardly deviates from the original release.

get over yourself

So far the game is up to par with my expectations...

This is like Star Wars : The newer ones were criticized. Were they that bad? of course not, but they had huge shoes to fill...

Another World was a milestone back then so it is only normal that people expected more...

Let's face it : We will never see anyone ♥♥♥♥♥ about a future Call of Duty DLC that we finish in an hour because our expectations are already so low...

So picture stellar titles like Another World like caviar & Call of Duty like fast food : :RottenEgg: The eternal quality over quantity issue...

My two cents.
