How to unassign/remove/clear a room?

I am looking to clear accidental room assignments. For example. I assigned kitchen, but I no longer want the area to be kitchen. I want it to be empty space. Is there a way?

With the room in question selected with the 'rooms' tab just right click and drag :)

so

Rooms >> Kitchen >> Right click to delete squares, or right click + drag to delete sections.

You don't even have to choose a specific room. Clicking on the Room button will allow you to de-tag a room using right-click and drag.
