Had the same problem with the laundry. Workshop worked fine though.
You need ironing boards for laundry too by the way, it might work if you place some of those, didn't work for me though. Gonna try again later.

I think it is the size of the room that causes issues and I think the programing that assigns units to a room is busted. My guards, if not given a patrol in a specific room, will just bunch up and hump eachother or something. My guess is that both the "work" and "guard room" systems are linked and that both are broken somehow.

yup, amost a breaker till aplha 11, SOMETIMES de-assigning all of the staff and reassigining them (during "work" time only) will re-queue some of the laundry jobs. cant wait till a-11 hotfixes....

None of the jobs worked for me. Kitchen duty, cleaning, workshop and laundry. As far as I got with laundry was the guards dropped off dirty tracksuits. The workshop never took off as there appears to be a bug if you build a workshop item (saw or press) and dismantle it for new placement. The workers never move to pack it up after dismantling or move to re build it somewhere else, so make your first placement count.

Also, does anyone else think that laundry should perhaps be handled off site until you can get a laundry room up and running? Would have the issue of (maybe) cost and (definitely) the time it takes to get it done.

-EDIT-

There is a time period scheduled for work? ive never seen it. Just the usual shower, freetime, eat, yard, eat, freetime, sleep system. Does it have to be enabled?

(please note that I have the research completed and my laundry DOES, in fact, include several ironing boards.)

Yes on the regime there is the ability to mark work peroids. Your prisoners will never use any work related facilities unless the time is designed as work. Any prisoners who are not working will treat the time as tree time.

Its under Regime: http://prison-architect.wikia.com/wiki/Regime

Can't play here either cause of laundry being broken, making prisoners unhappy with dirty clothing.

Also have that bug it works at the start, but every day it gets less and less effective untill all workers just stand around in the laundry room. Additionally, you should be able to purchase new uniforms at a higher cost, because by the time you get to research prison labour and deployment, the prisoners are allready rioting because of clothing needs.

So I worked on this some today and came to a good conlcusion. Its three fold. One; in order to make it work (sorta) you need to watch that you do not put to many inmates on laundry duty. Too many of them seems to break the system. Two seems to be the sweet spot for small to medium prisons and maybe 4 or 5 for big ones. (maybe) Two; inmates work much to slowly to allow for large laundry rooms to be effective. Once they get a clean batch in a bin it takes ages for them to get to where they are going unless you make about 50% of their day full work. Three; work loads need to be seperated by walls. i.e. Create enclaves where laundry is spread out. Until the system is fixed you will have to game it to make it work.

However, individual builds may greatly affect my observations.

Yep, works perfectly fine with just two workers in the laundry room, a little slow but they manage for now. Sometime soon I'll test and see if putting a 2nd laundry room also with just 2 would work without bugging.
