The prisoner needs to be escorted to the infirmary by a guard so maybe your prison is understaffed or you have too many guards assigned to patrols, etc and there has not been an opportunity to take them by the "free" guards.
If I selected a prisoner that was injured and then right clicked on the infirmary this issued a priority order and the prisoneer was soon escorted to be healed. (This also worked when assigning prisoners in the holding cells to empty individual cells).

the psychologist is in charge of the alcoholics group therapy which is held in the staff room. Yes, more money per prisoner.
