Flooring Types - any affect on the game inhabitants?
As in: is white tile easier to clean? Do wood floors make staff happier or tire less quickly?

Some of them make movement faster, may be in the description for the tile. That's about it as far as I know.

Interesting ideas. Make the suggestion to the admins on their forum.
Rimworld does floors like how you'd like them in PA - speed and furnishing value. I agree that furnishing value might be a fun stat to play with but, meh, it's a prison. They get concrete floors and I don't care how it makes them feel. ONly offices get wood floors, and staff with offices don't seem to need much caring for.

If you like PA you should check out RimWorld. Also in alpha but not on steam yet. I find it a more stable and enjoyable experience than PA, largely due to that stability, but also because the characters you look after are easier to care about.

I will look into it - thanks. IIRC the old Theme Park and Theme Hospital (inspiration for PA) used to have room deco mods for the staff.

The "walking speed" characteristic is actually helpful because it can help you channel prisoners. Generally, prisoners will take the route to a destination with the fastest walking speed. It's also helpful to use "fast" flooring in the kitchen and canteen (gets food to the serving tables faster, gets prisoners to serving table and then to eating table faster, increasing the rate at which you can get everyone fed).

Also helps to use it in the cell blocks, laundry room, and the path between them to get clean uniforms out in the shortest time.

Also helps on the path between DELIVERY and STORAGE, STORAGE and KITCHEN, STORAGE and WORKSHOPS, WORKSHOPS and EXPORT (basically any time you have a known starting and end point for a route, putting "fast" flooring there cuts down travel time.

Likewise, SLOW flooring has the opposite effect. Ever had a problem with prisoners getting outside the walls and running amok towards freedom? Making your outside areas SAND (slow walk, if memory serves) with a perimeter of "fast" flooring being patrolled by dog guards slows down the runner while giving your guard the fastest possible intercept time.
That is a very devious suggestion ... I LOVE it! lol I am going to incorporate something like this in my current prison.
