Waste Bins - How many and where?
So Waste Bins are only used for contraband as far as I can tell - But where (and how many) should I place? What do you usually do?

At the moment I have them outside each cell block as well as near any building (rooms) and near the few metal detectors I have. And that's it really.

Contraband is managed by rooms not objects... Any contraband confiscated upon searches just disappears into cyber-space. Contraband itself is not an item, but metadata.

As far as I can tell, Waste Bins are just for decoration, they serve no real purpose.

Really? I thought the contraband would be dropped on the ground and only "dissolved" once carried to a bin. Well there you go - That saves me some worries (at least for now)

If you put one in your kitchen and/or canteen, your cooks will dump leftover food or dropped ingredients in them. It is not really necessary to run a kitchen, but it looks nice and clean and I never had the problem that leftover food gets stored in my storeroom. At some point a worker will show up and take the trash bag to the garbage area.

Maybe that is not a real purpose, but at least they are doing something.

I think this might actually be their intended purpose lol. All these players complaining about food trays and wasted food everywhere... did they bother putting waste bins in their kitchen/canteen?

That's how it used to be but it was changed a few releases ago.

The Bin can be used as a temporary storage place for garbage bags. After time the workmen will empty the Bin and take the garbage bags to the Garbage. It is especially useful for cooks who occasionally drop ingredients.
