In-cell showers??
Ok i noticed that the new room quality mechanic gives a boost for cells having a shower head in them.

"Awesome!" I thought. "Instead of giving every individual cell its own seperate shower room, like ive been doing, now i can save on doors & just put the shower head right in the cell!"

Nope, doesnt work that way. When shower time comes, the prisoners totally ignore the shower head in their cell & go use the one little communal shower i have by the holding cell.

Damn.

I hope thats a bug.

It's supposed to work that way. When you set Shower time in your regime you're telling them you want them to go to a room that's marked as Shower.

I have heard something like if you take away shower time from the regime, and just add another slot of Free time in it's place, that perhaps the prisoners then shower at their own showerheads in their cells, at their pace/free will or volition?

Can't confirm this yet, have yet to test it.

I would assume it would work as myzeryreturns said; I have seen some prisoners go to my communal showers during their freetime, so I would assume if you added freetime and took away communal shower buildings/times they would use the ones in their cells.

That's true. Also it's ridiculous and idiotic. I hope to see a change of this nonsense in the future.

Why is it "ridiculous and idiotic"? You use the regime to control where you want the prisoners to go.

So as long as they have some freetime its not necessary to put shower on the regime at all?

During free time they take care of whatever needs they have.

Has anybody figured out a good way to stop water from spilling all over the place from showers though. Even 2 drains aren't enough for me
Markus Reese Jun 9, 2015 @ 8:58pm
Showers need it surrounded. Think of drains as barriers, not a magnetic object but they do help flooded areas drain faster it seems. Oh, and I believe that includes angles water can travel. Anybody verify?

As others have said, regime is more about a where than a what. Showers are a give an take. They shower on freetime and lockup, but you also are spending more plus cells larger/more cramped or loss of other items as compared to having a shower room. With the new tiered system of rooms, I really never use the shower regime for normals. For the main low grade cells, I set a shower and prisoners shower on their free time.

it doesn't take an hour to take a shower. you can't force them by regime to take a shower, that's simply unenforcable, unless you put a camera in each cell, but even then... what are you gonna do? forcibly strip down and hold under everyone that doesn't wanna or claims they already went?

Shower Regime is a control means, not a hygiene ensurance. you can control where they go, not what they do. it's the same with Yard regime. you're not forcing them to exercise and many don't.

That is a very interesting concept, I never thought about it that way. Although the problem about giving too much Free Time is that it reflects on their Punishment and another stat that can't remember, not helping on the reoffending rate.

I normally have 2 hours of Free Time, 1 hour of Shower and 1 hour of Yard. It is true that showering doesn't take the full hour, but close, factoring in the travel time between of going to the shower, showering and leaving to do one activity, it does take them most of the hour.

That's why people usually place Shower after Sleep or Lockup, and place the showers next to the cells.

Anyone letting them shower on their Free Time and not putting Shower time and not placing Yard time for Exercise, how do you see their Needs fulfilled? Do guys use 3 hours of Free Time?
Ric Jun 10, 2015 @ 3:40am
Beware using the shower in cell idea and only having freetime to let the prisoners sort themselves. They are not the smartest bunch at times and if you always let them make their own decisions, they tend to screw up.

I've tested both mathods quite extensively and while its nice having the ability for prisoners to shower whenever they want, it never works that well in reality. I always end up reverting back to single serving showers and a proper shower time :prisoner:

ps:shower blocks in the yard are a godsend for midday cleaning.
Cuintus Jun 10, 2015 @ 3:58am
Mmmm, shower heads in the Yard, interesting. Do they use them during Yard time?
System Jun 10, 2015 @ 4:14am
If the showers are marked as part of the yard, yes. You can also place them in the canteen etc. and as long as they are marked as canteen room they will be used during food regime.

Does anyone have a better method of waking prisoners up than food regime? I couldn't find anything that wouldn't either make them go to a shower room (shower regime) or make them sleep for ages (freetime), then piss themselfs when they wake up or walk towards the canteen creating a giant ugly mess to clean up *gah*. -.- Maybe yard time for wake up and placing showers in the yard too then food regime afterwards? Hmmm...

Yup, they do Cuintus.

Here's an idea of a big multiyard for you to see. The prisoners will use all these objects during freetime & yard time. :prisoner:
