Ultimate Cell / Cellblock Design?
Heyo,

I'm currently in the Planning of Building a Supermax Prison for that I'm playing around with constructing the most secure Cell, that allows the prisoners to stay in their cells the most of the day.

Here is my current build: Cell Screenshot on Steam

When freetime begins the door to the common room from each cell opens, while the solitary door from the cell closes to make the prisoners unable to walk out of the cell.

Since Food delivery into the cells won't work until they are in solitary or lockdown (or will it be deliverd to there cells when there is not eat regime?) there is a need for a canteen which could look something like this: Cellblock Screenshot on Steam

It works but is not the best to put into a pattern. Also I'm struggling with the a couple of more things:
- Through the double cell door janitors wait for hours until a guard comes in and opens the door, a remote would work but I think to many wouldn't look that good.
- During the freetimes the solitary doors get locked shut so guards can't get inside.

Any suggestions to improve the cells / cellblock in terms of layout and features? Also to see some of your designs would be awesome!

The great thing is they ONLY leave thier 'cell' for programs. I have regular jail doors that have been locked open for the rooms making up thier cell, this way they don't need to wait, but if they get rowdy I can manually lock them closed (haven't had to yet, althoug I somtimes do while janitors are cleaning the cells durring yard time... just to be sure they don't get any ideas.). The entire area surrounding the cells is staff only so no one goes anywhere without and escort.

Those Cells are HUGE lissa. I've seen appartments smaller than them. ^^

Well, they will be able to hold legendarys 22h a day in there cell, there must be space to fit everything they need.
But I have to say that they are really a bit big :D i think there is no need for a yard, a window should be enough.

This common room is not private, all prisoner can use!

In my prison there are only 2x3 cells. Big block (10/12 cells) for min and med security, and medium or small block (6-4 cells) for max or supermax.

I know that, but most of the time they will use the nearest. In addition to that the solitary doors get locked so they can not leave there cell during freetime and can only get into there "own" common room.

They are huge. I get it. They are designed to keep these prisiones sepeataed from EVERYONE. No supression, no needs unmet no chance to kill janitors. If you don t give them yard time the complain and that leads to riots. The seperate canteens and yards were were accually part of that plan, I had 4 real S.Max prisoners (3 legendary and 1 extreamly deadly, extreamly volitle expert fighter) then threw a Snitch (I called him bait) in to test it. I kept that snitch alive and accually got the legendary prisioners relaesed. This is a late game addition, and I wasn't really worried about the space, only the results. not sure if you can see it but there is also a shower in the cell. VERY handy. I have started doing that for max sec prisioners also (3x4 cells with a shower room inculded.) It seriously cuts down on incedents.

I did a test with splitting the inmates into groups with the rating system and it work pretty well. 4 prisoners are eating at the same time. Over the day always 2 are having yard time for a total of 2 hours. The current design is easier to duplicate and layout but I'm not happy with the design of the cells so I have to do some work there.

Cellblock!

Deployment!

I found this topic very interesting! I'ver never had Supermax prisoners yet, I love building and optimizing though so I gave it a shot and this is what I came up with:

http://imgur.com/a/9kYMu#6

As you can see this is easely put into a pattern. 2 cells/canteens use a 10x11 space. The outside hallways are for the prisoners to use if you would like them to follow programs, they enter and exit trough a chokepoint. The doors will only open when the K9guard is present so you are sure all entry/exits are sniffed and go trough the metal detector. The green light goes on once the K9 is in place.

At lunchtime the celldoors open to the inside so they can enter the canteen. There is some etxtra room in there so I could fill out the pattern but you could easely put a phonebooth there if you like.

All canteens are connected via a hallway only accesable to staff and ends in a kitchen so the kitchenstaff can easely distribute all food to the canteens. The prisoners will never enter that hallway.

I love to throw in solitary cells as you can see in the design but you can easely put them somewhere else if you'd like.

I hadn't thought about prisoners needing yard time, and them complaining if they dont get it. I think the design can be chagned to put a small yard in between cell and canteen so they can just flow trough depending on where they are going.
Edit: Forgot a yard needs to be 5x5. Not sure how to incorporate that and keep the design pretty compact...

The one square space between the cell and canteen door I use to put metal detectors so anything they take from the canteen is spotted. I forgot to put them in for the picture though. Having the metal detector technically being in their cell means they sometimes wander trough it so if any metaldetectors let something slip you could catch it in there.

Edit: Don't forget to put your toilets as far away from outer walls and large drainpipes as possible!

If anyone has any pointers to make this even more optimized please let me know!

So I tried my layout with the yards... Looks messy but it sorta works since prisoners will go to the yard nearest to them. 1 yard now holds 2 prisoners.

I've got a problem with asigning prisoners to canteens though, right now they want to eat together in the same one :|

you need a phone and a prayre mat, otherwise you'll have unhappy. Also your shower can't be tagged as a shower because it contains your only toilet. You could change out that bookcase (as they are not really functional atm) or better I think, the weightbench and put that in the yard (if you are miking one) instead.
I'd add a square worth of width for pure aesthetics, I just don't like stuff jammed in that colse, but you want effecient.

Oh, you have to put doors in a line to seperate the cells into thier own blocks. Then it wwill set properly in logistics

Thank you for the advise. To be hones I prefer astethics as well, but since this concept already takes up a lot of space maybe there is some good middle ground to be found. I'll try out some of your suggestions and see how that affects things! I'll update a screenshot of it later.

You sure saved my canteen idea! Here's how it looks :)

Added some regular doors for each individual cell to be seen as a cellblock.

As for the shower, i haven't set it to a shower area. It's part of the cell, that way they will use it whenever they need to. As far as I know setting showertime in the regime should make them change into clean clothes, but they won't have to leave the cell.

They will only use the shower sometimes on lock down, it is rather unreliale. I accually have found they will use the shower in the yard before one in the cell... no idea why. I make a small 1x2 room I tag as shower inside the cell w/ a shower and toilet, then set 2 shower times (right after they wake up and right befote bed) and include shower heads in the yard. You may want to consider locking the cell door between the canteen and cell open so the prisioners don't ahve to wait for a gaurd. You could also just change it to a door, but then if somthing happened you couldn't lock it.

Good call on the prayer mat, hadn't thought of it. Added a tv to the canteen areas and removed the bookcase. Added a yard, but not to happy with the amount of space it's all taking :p
lissa_981 Mar 24, 2015 @ 6:01pm
It's a great layout for what you're trying to accomplish. One other thought if they are sharing a yard you could probobly have them share a canteen. 2 is a very manageable number, especially if yo udrop your meal times to 1 hour, they really don't have time to make trouble. that should save you some space.
