Foundations destroy existing walls
I've just started playing for the first time and find constructing adjacent buildings annoying. When I try to create a new indoor area via foundations it seems to like to destroy existing walls in adjacent foundations.

Is there a way to designate to construct indoor only foundations?

To illustrate what I mean, a series of screenshots:

As you can see, trying to create another empty rooms inbetween my supposed canteen and my offices makes all the rooms merge together. It's annoying because the demolished walls are not refunded and leave rubble trash, wasting important starting money.

Is the way buildings are supposed to be built in this game by designating an entire square areas beforehand and keep all the building seperate from each other? Is there a way to have foundations constructed without merging adjacent rooms?

Pretty easy to fix.

When you're building an extension, if you overlap your foundation plan with an existing wall, that wall will be destroyed. If you pull back one square so that your new foundation plan goes up against the existing wall, it won't be demolished. It'll be utilized as an outer wall.

Next time, try searching. I've given this exact answer hundreds of times.

What's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥? Why are you acting like a spoiled ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?

I gave a clear answer and asked the admittedly new player to use the search function. If you think that makes me rude, you need to get off the internet.

It's the tone of the last line. I get why you're pissed off, because it's annoying when people don't search, but don't pretend you don't know that that comes across as kinda frosty and inhospitable :P

I find a better way to put it is:

If you're stuck, please do give the search function a try before asking questions about basic functionality. By not searching you're missing out on loads of help that's already available! :)

it's counter-intuitive and bad game design OP, not your fault.

I said "use the search function." Scroll up on this page. It's on the right side.
You're welcome.

So... you googled the answer. Found someone to give you the answer you wanted.

...and you think that the person giving you the answer is stupid. Do you have a mirror handy?
