PSA: One Single Canteen for 500+ Prisoners is a really bad idea
Don't tell me I never told you nothing. Ha ha.

Everything went well for quite some time.. I had 100 cooks and 6 kitchens surrounding a HUGE mega canteen (cause I couldn't figure out balance). Most meal times all prisoners got a chance to eat and/or were well fed. So eating was not the issue nor was anything else for that matter. Did not have any incidents for 50+ days and if there was anything it was small.

I guess Big John got greedy and wanted an extra brownie for dessert and stuck a fork in some other inmates plate.. it was all over from there...The biggest massacre.. I should call it The Red Canteen cause thats what it looked like after 380+ people died.

P. S. I created the huge canteen design as a way to circumvent a large majority of prisoners vsiting one canteen over the other (E. g. most going to a really small kitchen/canteen etc). Guess it was a good idea in theory.

I always make huge canteens to avoid how wonky rooms can behave. So far the biggest issue was one fella getting grumpy during work and hitting the cooks while he was mopping the kitchen floor. Two other inmates came to sort him out, but they got into a tussle with a poor cook (RIP) inbetween them.

Usually have more guards in the canteen than anywhere else (primarily because of the metal detectors) in the prison, so hopefully it's massacre-free. Will keep an eye out when it's time for desserts. ;)

It's only really a side effect, not the canteen itself. By simply having a lot of prisoners in one area, the danger level will increase. They get more uppity the more of them there are.

So yeah, 500+ in a single area is going to get messy.

You can use multiple canteens, but you need to really watch how much food you make, as the Cooks will prefer to send food to one canteen before the other, so you need enough to fill both. Secondly, you'll also need to use deployment to segregate the prisoners as they will always prefer the closest canteen otherwise.

I have a large canteen but i keep a few of my guards in it, and once there is a fight they get tasered so its always people injured only

yeah, like a zombie plague, higher density makes anger propagate very quickly. but also since Forks are Weapons they have plenty of Weapons in the Canteen. if the Kitchen is in the same Enclosure they can get Knives, too.

So that's why it'd be a great idea to have the chance of setting different regimes based on the danger level of every prisoner.

Yeah, it's a suggestion that's been posted before so it may well get added eventually in an upcoming alpha.

i would like to see the food being brought directly to the prisoners. So i could keep my high sec prisoners out of a canteen.
And in addition i would like to be able to assign prison blocks to canteens/showers/yard
