Question about Power
The generator I was using was overloaded. I built two more connected to the same route and it didn't change anything. I've tried disconnected part of the place from one and running it straight to another and I continue to have issues. I don't understand because for a long time, this one generator was working great with everything. It's like all of a sudden my power usage exponentially exploded.

Any help is welcome!

You can't run two generators on the same power grid, they will overload each other. Every new generator you build must have it's own power grid, and the power lines of each must never cross each other.

Did you make sure to build the maximum number of capacitors around your first generator (I think it's 16)?

NEVER put two or more generators on the same power grid. They will overload each other (As My*Glass*Eye said). You want one generator, with 16 capacitors around it. If you have to have another generator, it must be on a seperate grid and not connected to the first grid.

Just as the person above me said, you cant have two generators on one power line. When you do seperate the lines and you finally get two systems of electricity going (as noted by the varying shades of green) be sure to turn on your capacitors manually before the generator since blackouts shut down the capacitors. I didnt figure that out till i replaced the whole thing and read it on the forums a few days ago.

You can tell when a Power Station and Capacitors are off because they will flash the lightning bolt symbol just like other utilities that use power do when they're not powered.

And when they're on, they don't. So it's fairly obvious that the capacitors need to be turned on too.

I thought a generator could only take 9 capacitors around it? Guess i learned something major today. damn

it's 12. jeebers, you guys suck at math.

Honestly, I think it should be possible to add multiple power sources on the same grid. I also think the capacitors needs to go, they don't add anything but annoying chores of turning them on, and they must be placed in direct contact.

if you don't run out of power, you won't need to turn them on manually. also, why does that mean they need to go? wouldn't you rather want to be able to turn them back on as a group?

Not really. I suck at remembering how many tiles on each side of a generator. I thought it was 4.

Eh?

They add huge amounts of extra capacity to your generator, silly. They're essential.

No. It's 16. You suck at maths. 3 on each side, plus 1 for each corner. 3+3+3+3+4. Ooh look. 16.

wait..you can put capacitors diagonally adjacant to Power Stations? pretty sure you can't, since powerlines also don't work diagonally.
AlexMBrennan May 9, 2014 @ 11:09am
It used to be 12, but an update allowed capacitors placed in the corners to count as well (note that the corners aren't really adjacent to the generator much like you can't build diagonal power lines or water pipes)

He's saying that they don't add anything to the game over having a more expensive generator with more power.

good to know

It is a right royal pain individually turning back on each capacitor after a blackout :cgpout:
