Seperating prisoners by security
Ive seen a lot of people trying to seperate prisoners of different secuirty levels. i.e. max sec and protective custody from all the other prisoners.
So far I havent seen anyone (including me) who has managed it completely successfully.

There appear to be 2 approaches to this.

1. Using permanent lockdown. Creating luxury cells and placing them in perm lockdown. Unfortunately this doesnt work because even in lockdown they seem to be able to go to visitation and parole.
Ive tried creating their own parole room but so far they use all the parole rooms instead of the one designated to them.

Not tried creating a seperate visitation yet, anyone else know if this works?

2. creating fully seperate wings with canteen, yard etc just for that security level.
This has the down side of mixing max sec prisoners together where they may fight and no benefits I can see above option 1. Plus the problem of going to visitation and parole rooms elsewhere in the prison is still present.

What are your experiences with keeping prisoners seperate?
Anyone had success with doing this?

Cheers

I do it all the time. the trick is to set air locks limiting your traffic flow. Not @ home to post specific screenshots, but if you go to my profile and dig around there should be a few up.

Ive got them all in seperate max sec and PC blocks. Surrounded by staff only area with their own parole rooms attached. All in perm lockdown.

But they still get taken to other parole rooms and get taken to visitation in gen pop.

Think it might be perm lockdown that is causing it but having perm lockdown and nice cells seems a better use of space that having seperate blocks with all the facilities such as yard and canteen etc.

Did you zone the Parole and Visitation Rooms to allow only the ones you want in there?
gryphon Jul 27, 2015 @ 11:39am
I havent built their own visitation...though cos they were in perm lockdown they wouldnt be able to go and would use the phones in their cells instead...no such luck.

But i did create their own parole room zoned accordingly.

I think it is cos they are in perm lockdown, guards take them to the required room.

Esentially I am trying to force PC and max sec into operating the same way as death row guys....so they stay in their cells but parole and visitation is messing it up.

The Parole Room thing is listed on the bug tracker, hopefully it's something they'll address in the next build. I have Parole Rooms in my secured areas, zoned as PC or MaxSec only, but the guards still escort them out into the general population for their hearings, and also escort regular prisoners into my protected areas for their hearings.

Haven't had that issue with visitation though, I have a couple Visitor Rooms in my two secure areas and they only get families for the prisoners in those secure areas.

Ah cheers jet.

Unfortunately when i build the secure wing i didnt realise that prisoners in perm lockdown could still go to visitation so i didnt build one...i was hoping they would rely on the phones instead.

Do death row go to visitation too..not seen it happen?

Guess I will have to build some visitation rooms in there somewhere. :)

thanks

DR guys do go to visitation and their appeals, but they're so suppressed it's no big deal having a guard escort them there and back. Most of the time they just mope around in their cells.

ah ok. defo need to add some visitation rooms to this secure wing then cheers.

lets hope they fix the parole thing soon.

yeh parole is a problem so I left it shared at least they get handcuffed to and forth.

Separating is easy. It uses a little more space, but it can make you a lot more money than a constant lockdown.
I don't like putting prisoners in perm lockdown. I've even dropped PC completely and just relegated them with my min security. They're not locked up, saves space, and with reform programs they qualify for parole a lot faster.

Here's what I have done and it seems to work really well: I just build a whole seperate building with basics (cleaning cupboard, cells, holding, canteen, shower, yard, another amenity or two if I feel the need). I have an airlock in front of it so that they have to be escorted to parole or visitation.

I have separate units for each level of prisoner, and each unit has its own visitation and parole rooms (as well as everything else). I zone the rooms for the security level of the prisoners who live (and work and eat there) and it works just fine. I have 'staff only' zoned entrances so prisoners can't just get up and leave.

What do you mean by "separated" I tend to have main wings that keep them separated with certain more major rooms shared sometimes by accessing through a main security base. by using the regimes, I can keep them from interacting if I so choose. In addition, instead of the having major rooms for whole cells, I use regime and multiple smaller rooms to keep them from crossing over into other areas.

The only prisoners that go into permanent lockdown are ones with volatile and deadly together. Had an extremely volatile extremely deadly legendary that had two armed guards outside to keep that one under control....

As for the protective custody, I believe they get escorted. I haven't tried or thought up even setting up a specified parole room.

Some samples starting with my newest

Next: Note the dense wings, but how each wing has a small canteen and yard to keep separated. I can change these easily to different sec status as needed. Bottom left is my supermax sec, death row had just come out and bottom right (but used for max sec partly)

The bottom right with the big yard was my protective custody

As I go back, I have typically a modular setup.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=323438456

The key part to stable while separating is to prevent densities from being too high in most trouble spots without having to overuse guards. If something bad happens, also keeps it managable levels and quick bangup turn around. Above showed how capacities of wing was small, but then went up a bit more for canteens an the yards. However for the max and supermax, think of designs that will keep them separated at all times.

Example one of my first ones. This prison was high sec only back when it was more difficult to manage. This was me figuring out good layouts as I liked playing continuous intake for some challenge. Note how there is a small holding cell per wing keeping them from being overloaded. Between cells was the shower So one shower for two cells, and between these pairs was a yard so each yard only had four prisoners for it plus if any were in holding.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=251531396

Drawback was if holding cells suddenly got overloaded, one yard would have far too many prisoners so I increased both of these ratios. But overall, separating them isn't too bad. I do think it can cause issues with deliveries if you have airlock style. If you are like me and want the whole setup to be behind common walls and entry, can also do it with shared hallways, just do not have any shared rooms that would cause other prisoners to want to wander the hallways.

Well, im mixing my prisoners a bit, i build 4 wings:

wing 1: minsec and protectiv
wing 2: medsec and maxsec
wing 3: smax
wing 4: protectiv

But what to do:

i build for every catagory their own cell block, holding cells and solitary cells. So the prisoners are never escorted to the false wing.

Prisoners escorted to parole room, with false security level is a bug, but it will be fixed for the next Alpha: im refering to the mantis bug tracker:

http://bugs.introversion.co.uk/changelog_page.php
http://bugs.introversion.co.uk/view.php?id=9058

So i build an airlock for my parole rooms. So they fail the parole they have to be escorted back to cells. earlier in game i build a parole room block, but i didnt like, because my guards had then all escort to their parole. Screenie attached in some seconds
