Making Protective Custody prisoners use a private yard
Hey everyone, I just built a protective custody wing and five of the cells in it our literal suites with their own personal inmate yards, but I am having trouble getting them to go into the yard. Let me state that not every cell in pc has its own private yard, and my regime is lockdown 24/7, but the yards are behind normal doors. I imagine if every cell equally had a yard I could have yard time in the regime, but if I put it in now, the prisoners that dont have their own private yards go to the other ones. Help!

Prisoners will go to whichever yard they are closest to when yard time beging. I only give s. max 'private yards' but here is my S. max layout:

See the area directly to the left of the prisoner box.

Well, they will go to the yard if you schedule Yard time, you can force them out there if you update your regime. But really, the PC guys are the least of your worries. Just build them a little paradise (with their own yard!) where they never have to interact with the GenPop. Mine are all a bunch of ex-cop alcoholics with booze hidden in their cells. They're not looking to cause trouble.

I just keep them isolated. Heck, I've only got one guard back there, and he's half alseep most of the time.

well yes, here my deployment screen of actual prison.

in this case u should look at my supermax block, as im mixung up minsec and protectiv.

But u can also see that i build some airlocks to prevent prisoners from running around in false security areas.

like middle workshop, mail room with 3 airlock entrances for min/med/max secure, but no one for protective. or the floor between the cellblocks which is staff only.

here detailed of the supermaxblock:

The Yard is the L thing at the top left. Needed a chapel and had no space for it xd

Thanks for the replys but im afraid im still looking for a answer. So the problem remains half of my cells having yards and half not having them in protective custody, so if I give a regime change to yard, the prisoners with no private yard are going to the private yards of other prisoners (My goal is having prisoners stay in their own cell area and to also use the private yard attached, and the prisoners who dont have a private yard stay in the cells) Im starting to think that unless every cell has its own individual yard its not going to work. I was hoping for something along the lines of lock down that would still let the prisoner use their private yard which is not the case. I have a feeling im facing a redesign.

to hold your prisoners in their block, u have to forbid the access to other regions of your prison. So there should be a staff only area between it.

At the prison of Jet City Gambler, the only entrance is staff only, at my prison the whole region around the smax prison is staff only.

Yeah the problem with that is within the cell block it dosnt let me make the path outside the cells staff only, its either the type of security zone it is, or the entire thing including cells becomes staff. I ended up scrapping my current prison and am experimenting with layouts for a pc wing that has individual yards for every single cell. Should solve my problem I think, cause now I can just regime in a few hours of yard time for em and they will all have their own close yards to lift some weights in.

This wont work, cause your prisoners can reach the canteen.

How about showing a deploymentscreenshot of your prison.

there are a couple tricks depending on the exact layout you are using if you could provide screen shots we canbetter advise. The easiest solution is to expand on the air lock system. Assue that = is the door to your cell (and it muct be a jail door for this to work:

|=|-----|=|-------|=|-------|

if | are doors accross the access hallway then the areas between (-------) can be designated staff only.
However this will result in the issue Trixi mentioned. Alternitively you can build the canteen into your bocks (again I use 2 man complexes because they make better use of the space).
This will allow you to zone the outsied hallway as you wish:

Why waste space giving them all individual yards? PC prisoners don't need that level of isolation, they don't cause trouble between each other.

Just give them one PC yard in the middle of their area and be done with it.

They always go to the closest yard that is zoned for them. So to manipulate which yard they go to, give them an hour of Lockdown to get them in their cells, then an hour of Yard to get them to go to the closest yard, which in this case would be something central for the whole PC wing.

Or let them share private yards, like you don't want. No harm there.

I generally zone my yards for only one security level to keep any mistakes from occurring.

Also, you don't actually need to schedule yard time for them to use the weight benches and phones and stuff. I've even seen some prison layouts where they have benches and phones in their cells. As long as they can fulfill their exercise and family needs, it doesn't have to be during yard time.

I don't have any yard time for my PC guys, most of their day is free time with a couple work blocks for their reform programs. They still use the yard all the time, lifting weights or sitting on the benches reading books. That screenshot I posted is during work time, but you can see three guys are hanging out in the yard.

There's nothing wrong with testing the limits of the mechanics. I agree that it is unnessecary for PC, I use the above for S. Max or prisoners with unknown reps. However if he wants to try it, please be supportive and constructive not just tell hime it's a dumb idea.

I certainly didn't intend to be disrespectful.

One way you could make it work, although it would take some serious oversight anytime you want to change things, is to use a Door Timer and servos on the PC doors you don't want to open at Yard time.

That way you can issue Yard time in the regime, and specify that certain doors remain closed, which would achieve exactly what you want.

Im not trying to make a gammy prison im just trying to have fun and im determined to make private yards work, im in the process of rebuilding prison version 3.1. As I said before I want the prisoners in their cells and not wandering the pc wing so lockdown/yard time should work now that every pc cell has a yard (In the remake im doing, the first pc wing featured varity of cell types, some with no yard, which seems to be where my problem arose from in the first place). Thread solved, thanks everyone!
