Bridge to cross water?

An Island in the middle of a large lake spawned on the large map. I was wondering Is there an option to create a bridge to it? Would be nice if there was

I think it's impossible to build on water at the moment except via save editing.

As Emmote said, it's currently impossible to build over water. With what he means with save editing, you'll be changing tile properties in your save file through a program like Notepad. Note however, the tile format is in coordinates starting at 0,0 in the top left and starts with the first colum going down the length of the map before going to the next column to the right.

So, it'll be in the format as below...
0,0
0,1
0,2
0,3
etc going down, then once it reaches the bottom-most tile will repeat with the next column.
