Guard to Prisoner Ratio, and cooks.
I have two questions, 1. What ratio of guards to prisoners do you have in your prisons usually? I have a prison with 268 prisoners and 45 guards, so that comes out to 5.956 prisoners to each guard. Do I have too many guards? I usually have some k9 units patroling heavy traffic areas, and I usually keep 2-4 armed guards in my heavy max area.

2. How many cooks do you usually have? In the same prison of 268 inmates I have 10 cooks, and 3 different kitchens. (I have around 85 max level prisoners and the rest are medium) so one kitchen is in the max side and the other two are in the medium side. I have plenty of medium level prisoners working in my kitchens so my 10 cooks aren't doing all the work, but I still feel like I am having a hard time feeding my prisoners. How do you guys manage feeding so many prisoners?

30 guards, 150 prisoners at the moment (which is more than I actually need for most purposes ... but I prefer to have a good surplus in order to get shakedowns done during sleep times

10 cooks + prisoners helping them, only one kitchen

15 guards, 150 prisoners, 4 dog handlers. 8 cooks, 8 stoves, 8 fridge. All max sec.

For guards I generally have enough 'free' guards to pick up every prisoner at intake time. So roughly 20-30. The rest of my guards will be on patrols at key locations covering metal detectors etc.

The number of free guards tends to go up on very large maps due to needing more guards to speed up shakedowns. But I never have in excess of 50 free guards.

As for Chefs. Well, I have 1 Serving Table per 40 prisoners. I have 5 Cookers, 2 Fridges and 2 Sinks per Serving Table. Then I have 1 Chef per Cooker. Reduce the number of Chefs by however many prisoners you have working in your kitchens (to a minimum of 1 to teach).

WARNING! please read everything before commenting or hating.

I have played prison architect a while and i have a prison whit 70 high security prisoners. I also have around 30-45 guards (not sure) and 5 armed guard and 3 patrol dogs which is almost 1 guard each prisoner. I have security cameras everywhere and everything they need to be happy. I have small halls and patrols everywhere. I also have metal detectors everywhere its good. Like whit kitchen work rooms the door to the prisons the door outside and door to yard.

What I meant whit this is every advice you give is actual (bull). Sorry for saying it but it wont work. they started a rebel at the cells which is farest down my big prison and it is only 1 door out of the cell area. All the guards were patrolling. There was no way they could have smuggled any knifes through all the metal detectors and dog patrols. They even started the rebel when the warning thing for how much chance it is for rebel was at zero. and still they managed to kill all my guards and destroyed the auto locked doors.

This says that if you are trying to have a high security prison your going to fail any freaking way, even if you go off budget. and 2 guards is not enough for each prisoner. I know I am talking about high security but if 1 high security prisoner can take around 1,3 guard themselves, 2 guards cant be close to enough for 8 medium prisoners. My base got destroyed and I had to go to an older safe around 50 in-game days back.

I am thinking more about these scales:

EACH PRISONER:

High security: 1,5 guards each prisoner can be rolled down to 1 if you have a good system and everyone's happy.
You can take 0,7 to but that would be dangerous this is only if you are the one person only going for the profit.

Medium security: around 0,5 guards each prisoner.
This is because the Medium security has little chance of starting a rebel.

Low security: around 0,3 guards each prisoner.
These guards has so little chance making a rebel that you almost can have a prison without guards :D.

EACH 10TH PRISONER:

High security: 15 guards each 10th prisoner can be rolled down to 10 if you have a good system and everyone's happy.
You can take 7 to but that would be dangerous this is only if you are the one person only going for the profit.

Medium security: around 5 guards each 10th prisoner.
This is because the Medium security has little chance of starting a rebel.

Low security: around 3 guards each 10th prisoner.
These guards has so little chance making a rebel that you almost can have a prison without guards :D.

PLEASE COMMENT: please comment if I am completely wrong I have experimented a little to come to these number. I can check again it if anyone comment it wrong.

NOTE: The first numbers are the numbers that makes your prison COMPLETELY safe you can role them down a little and check the limits.

I have about 30 guards +5dog+5gun for 100 prisoners (and expanding fast), but that's because I had to add some guard staff when I got a Legendary, he keeps killing them. And the whole place keeps hopping compared to my previous prison. I also have four cooks (could get that lower by careful work scheduling but meh) and had to hire an extra cook to get any food up to the Legendary's mini-prison canteen.

48 guards for 600 prisoners (300 med + 300 max). Also 12 dogs + 2 guns.

60 cooks with high meal quantity.

I read somewhere 8 prisoners per guard and I kept that ratio for a while, but there was no trouble, so now it's 12.5 prisoners per guard. Less fixed costs, and a bit less LAG.

Forget shakedowns though, it's not even half way by morning. I only use block searches.

Yeah I'm constantly searching cell blocks, starting while prisoners are at chow. That way they don't get searched personally and so don't get mad, and yet I turn up tons of contraband items each time. if they get back to their cell before it's found, they get punished.

Armed guards are the way to go but they are pricy, and if you put them on freefire.. your going to have alot of dead people xD
