Difference between security ratings.
Hey guys, im about to attempt to make a prison that can house every security type but in order to minimise confusion and increase efficiency ill need to mingle some of them.

So what is the difference between the security types? Do prisoners in minimum security behave better than max?

For example would a snitch be ok in min security? Or is he just as liable to be stabbed as he would be in max?

Thanks in advance!

Typically, the lower the security rating the less violent the prisoners are, so they are better behaved.
A snitch can be placed in min sec, and he'll probably be OK...probably. In med sec and max sec he'll be dead inside 24 hours.
On the other hand, min sec prisoners are more likely to dig tunnels.
All legendary prisoners enter your prison as max sec.
The higher the sec level the more likely prisoners are gang members when they arrive at your prison.
Minimum security are more likely to be thieves, dig tunnels and such nonsense, but they are very compliant, they almost never start fights without a good reason, they have a generally low reoffending chance and short sentences.
They aren't as likely to turn against other prisoners such as snitches, but that doesn't mean snitches are safe.

Maximum Security have a lower tolerance when it comes to being angered. They tend to be more violent, but don't steal as much poison from the cleaning closet. They have a higher chance to have dangerous reputations, volatile, tough, fearless, etc.
If you have gangs enabled Max Sec are more likely to be in a gang than the others. They also have a 1% chance to be Legendary.
Max Sec have long sentences and higher reoffending rates.
They'll murder any snitch or Ex-Law-Enforcement within half a day.

Medium Security is in between, go figure.

Cool thanks guys.

I now need to work out if its worth putting snitches and such with min-sec under protective custody or if i should just make a separate wing and cordon it off for a join death row and protective. Mini-jails if you like.

What about super max too? Ive never seen anyone actually put on as supermax what is it for?
Supermax is a custom level like Protective Custody.
No prisoner arrives as SMax, you have to manually change it, so you can seperate the most troublesome of prisoners from the general population.

Fair enough. Thanks for the info!

if you prevent your prisoners from cluttering in huge groups, and from being in a group outside of supervision, medsec won't be able to kill snitches. only 10% of medsec would commit murder anyway, compared to 90% of Max (according to wikia).

Minsecs will do contrabant and might tunnel out, but not much else. Medsec will cause destruction and sometimes fight if they're cranky, and can riot if you're terrible, but they're fairly controllable. Maxsec will murder or riot at pretty much any excuse, and are also unlikely to do any Reform programs other than drug treatment or maybe religious counceling.

also funny is that, if i'm not mistaken, Minsec will mostly steal contrabant, while Maxsec will mostly smuggle contrabant.

I do a sort of seperated area for s. max (legendaries gang leaders and the like) and PC inmates. I do allow min sec access for work porposes ( I stagger routeens so PC is on the same schedual as norm, and S. Max is on the same as Max, so the rooms are unsued durring that regime anyway) All other prisoners share work areas but have thier own canteen, and yard, although on seperate scheduals.
