Prisoners dont use the shop
I have tried for quiet some time to set up a working shop for my prisoners. I had a few rooms assigned as shop by now including the storefront to the adjacent room. But all my prisoners do, is hoard their money despite the fact that they pass the shop during the work hours. I have assigned the maximum amount of workers so storefronts are always serviced. Dont they buy because they are too happy? Are there not enough Prisoners? Do i run an all-communist prison? What am i doing wrong?

Multiple possibilities. From what it sounds like though, its probably that bug.
Could you make a screenshot of your shop in deployment view?

There is a bug which requires the wall where you place the storefront to be part of the room (every wall is considered to be part of one of the adjacent rooms by the game), which will be fixed next alpha.

Also, they cant buy while they are working of course.

well, the shop is a bit tricky:

1. your prisones need money from working
2. your prisoners need a need, than can be satisfied from the shop
3. the shop should be the closest field, that can satisfy the need
4. the shop need to be open (assigned workers)
5. the prisoner need FREE TIME. so i think most of your prisoners have a job, but they havent the time to go shopping, so u should set different working times for your security levels

and last but not least:

the shop is working very inefficient. a shop fron can only support 4-5 prisoners an hour and the prisoners only use 1 shop front per shop.

so max income for your shop is about 20$ * working hours * count different shops ???

didnt try to make different shops.

You also seem to have 2 Shops. Not a problem afaik, just throwing it out there as you didnt mention it.

The one next (left) to the yard could sell at the wall facing the "outside", not towards the yard or common room.
(also, its written relativly low, did you lable the space under the door as shop as well? Dont know if thatd be a problem in the case of the shop, but looks like that could be the case)

The Shop bellow Visitiation could sell at the wall facing visitation and outside, not inside the cell block.

The calculators should face the way so that the people inside the shop can operate them when you place the counters ;)

i found facing a shop front facing out of the building onto a pathway works. one facing into say a common room doesnt

In this case, the only wall any of the 2 shops could use which is adjacent to another room would be the one adjacent to visitation, so, common room, yard or cell block certainly doesnt work just based on how the worlds are divided up.

Double interior walls seem to work best for the shop front, here's a scren shot of a layout that is working well for me:

I have same bug. I find some goods crate are bugged.
I have delete (dump) all goods crates present in shop and some prisoners rush my shop.
Finally I have dismantle all my shop (shelf) delete all crate, and rebuild and now it work fine.

Thanks everybody for your help. But in my case the problem seemed only to be a mix of too happy prisoners and not enough prison population. Reducing food rations and having 80+ prisoners did the trick. The work hours are the same for all types of prisoners.

Staggering regimes will help more. All the prisoners working (especially your skilled labor-which hads the most $) will be unable to use the shop because they are working. Also if you can manage it (again this is asking a lot) try to set your free time for the 2nd hour (or later) of work, as it takes time for prisoners to get to the shop and begin working so putting it on hour 2 makes maxime use of the time.
