How can cooks get to the kitchen without leaving a staff door out of the prison?
Given that cooks need to be able to use a staff door, but have to have access to the canteen, how can cooks get into the prison? I just made my first prison, and at the moment I have a completely separate entrance for all the administrative people, and I'm currently using a staff door as the back door to the kitchen, which leads to the canteen, which I'm assuming is a completely horrible idea.

I'm pretty sure I've made several mistakes at this point. Could I get some pointers on where I went wrong? How do non-guards best get around the prison?

I generally just use the locked jail doors for anything that leads outside my prison. I double them up even, for extra security.
Your staff don't 'need' staff doors. The guards will open the doors for them, as they would for prisoners moving about the prison.

It's not a horrible idea at all, it's fairly standard. I see nothing wrong with your prison so far. Although I'd make that big room into Storage.

If you feel you need extra security, you can upgrade it later to a remote door, or put a remote on it.

no this isn't very secure. there is only one door leading to the outside, which means they can just run out when the door opens. it's best to have such a door lead to another room or fenced area, and another door.

staff doors are almost as good as cell doors though. they are only slightly easier to bash down. though, really, they should add stealable staff keys.

Well yeah that's a good point. A buffer entry room (reception?) would be a good idea. I always put up road gates to stop runners.

A staff door has 40 toughness, a single jail door has 100. A double jail door has 200 while solitary and remote doors have 300.

@OP Do you insist on the kitchen and the canteen being in the same air space for visual reasons, or did it just seem intuitive to you? If inmates can just walk into the kitchen they will steal all kinds of items from it. If they were a separate room you could also designate the kitchen as staff only so that prisoners won't path through it unless they're actively attempting to break out.

You can install road gates so that your delivery area does not lead straight to freedom, or you can use tougher jail doors that are opened by guards or remote servos later on.

I made kitchen on the edge of the prison, and i made a entrance from outside, and to my other kitchens, i made like a small wall that has the staff doors.

OP's layout..... how did you think that layout was a good idea man? Especially the shower being in the middle of everything...and the yard isn't even outside .... SMH...
