Name in the game is a bonus reward to get your name in the game nothing much. And no renaming prisoners is not

Im not sure how deep modding can get in Prison Architect (I only mod some Lua games), but with the release, if you ask nice enought, there might be the possibility that someone creates this.

You can go into the save file and change the names to anything you want.

Plenty of guides in the Guides section on how to save edit.

As for what you're looking for in the save file, specifically:
BEGIN Bio Forname Oscar Surname Garcia
Searching for "BEGIN Bio" will be enough to find every prisoner.

Sure do:

1) Open game menu.
2) Choose save prison or load prison to open your list of save files.
3) Down the bottom left is your save file location (e.g. C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\saves). Hover over it and it will highlight grey. Click on it and the folder will open in windows, nice little time saver.
4) Open your .prison file. You will have to tell windows to open the program using a text editor, notepad works fine.
5) Use the find function and search for "Surname". That will take you to the name of the first prisoner, repeating the search will take you through the other prisoners. You can search for a particular name as well.
6) Change the Forname and Surname.

That should work fine for updating names en masse. For renaming prisoners regularly as they arrive try searching for "BEGIN Rooms", that will take you to the end of the object list where the new prisoners are most likely to be. Then you can use the find function in reverse to go through the recent arrivals. You'll have to search by name for any that aren't there.

How much of this are you planning on doing? Even with an efficient gui renaming hundreds of prisoners would be a lot of data entry.

Awesome man! Thanks! i just want to name certain groups after famous band members like Metallica and The black dahlia murder. maybe add some clever backstory on them.

How so? If you have double click for folder navigation set like I do It takes 3 mouse clicks from the main menu to open the save folder by pressing Open Save Folder. It only takes 2 from Load/Save Prison because it takes you straight into the saves folder . Even if you have single click navigation its a wash because loading times aren't an issue.

Also, if you want to load your file after you have edited it your way requires another additional mouse click.

TLDR; OP doesn't read before buying and should feel rather ashamed for that.

Emmote, yeah thats not how its sposed to work. How does the file path appear for you?

Mine shows the correct path but note the direction of the slashes: C:\Users\...\AppData\Local/Introversion/Prison Architect/saves

Your first mistake - Using / AND \ simultaneously.
