Dormitory and Privacy Need
I was excited to see the dormitory and bunk bed added to the game, as I thought it offered the promise of making functioning multiple prisoner cells. I decided to plan out a new large prison using a 2 man dormitory design in place of 1 man cells. I made each dormitory 4x3 with a bunk bed, tv, bookshelf, toilet and shower. Once I started letting prisoners in they paired up in the dormitories without a problem, but within a day or two each was showing a strongly unmet privacy need. I had assumed this would only be an issue with larger dormitories, and since I only had 2 prisoners in each, I thought I would be ok. I have decided to redesign my prison, going back to my old 1 man cell design. I have heard the privacy need can be mitigated minorly by doing things like enclosing or partially enclosing the toilet/shower, but those extra walls would ruin the space efficency of my design, and I doubt they would fix the privacy need entirely. I have heard that privacy needs can be met by getting prisoners alone time in things like "phone booths" or watching tv alone in a tiny common room, but again it requires extra space and would probably not solve the issue entirely. The problems caused by the unmet privacy need can be mitigated by being good to your prisoners in other areas, (lots of high quality meals and free time, etc.) but for now it would seem that if you want to fully address all of your prisoners needs, then having them stay in multiple prisoner dormitories long term is simply not viable.

It's true. Who wants to be in a barracks listening to the snores and farts of a bunch of cretins for 15 years? Nobody, that's who.

I make a smaller proportion of individual cells, and shuffle prisoners into them as their privacy needs dictate. Then push them out with the next worst guy in a day or so.

Thats a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Seems management intensive, but I suppose thats what a game like this is all about.

Pack it full of prisoners and see if the Privacy need stays low. But I will say it's an interesting layout.

Jaildoors as toilet doors? Why?
Also, the design is basicly just single cells around a commonroom. Each cell has a door.

because atfirst I try use timer to close the toilet at night to prevent digging, so I use the jaildoor, but they always stuck in front of toilet in the sleeping time, so I give up and remove the servo.

I think you might have the right idea Komighi. Here's the layout I'm testing (it's a grade 9 BTW):

It's a bit early to be sure aout the privecy need, but so far, even with 2 full dorms (104 prisoners per) of min sec the privecy need is very under control.

Okay, I'm nominatng Lissa as the Wicked Warden.

Does that mean you like it lol?? It certinly seems an effecient use of space ;-)

I like it because it's so sadistically organized. Like I said, the Wicked Warden.

In case you needed more proof this game is awesome:

I have noticed some tunneling issues, I think after farther testing, I'll try and put the bathroom cubicals in the middle, just a matter of finding a layout I like asthetical though. Atm I have dog patroling directly outside and metal detectors everywhere. Seems to keep things in check.
If you like here is my first attempt and 2nd side by side. The first is smaller (an 8 grade btw) but I don't like the common area looks, it does take up less space however:

On a note about that I think maybe the pool table req should be reduced to 1 for 8 prisoners (like windows) as they seem rarly inuse and take up a lot of space comparitivly.
I've been called that before Jet, it's ironic as some wardens try to build these crazy harsh super supressed facilities where everyone is misrible. All my prisoners are happy and unsupressed. OC I imagain all those radios and TV's are continously broadcasting propiganda about the Dear Warden, so... ;-)

I've been experimenting with dormitories and found out that having it atleast 12 squares per prisoner will not higher privacy, checked all my rooms that were dormitories over 12 squares and they had no need for privacy. Hopefully that helps.

Yea but it defeats the point. The point is to maximize the amount of prisoners in the least amount of space.

I created a dorm with 100 prisoners with a bit more than 6 spaces/prisoner to see if sleeping compartments, and private restrooms and showers, could ease the privacy need. They didn't.

to fulfil privacy needs. dont make showers like this | -------- | but like this | - - - - - | prisoners didnt like showering next to each others. make them an individual cells instead largeass domitary. the AI thinks domitary is just large 1 room with bunch of bed and making walls is pointless
