Nope - the only way is through optimization upgrades for PA and those we are still waiting for from IV. There are however things you can do to reduce the lag. 1) Don't create loops in your utilities. 2) Don't create bottlenecks for your staff (ie: Ensure that your indoor corridors and outdoor pathways are AT LEAST 2, IF NOT 3, SQUARES WIDE. 3) Minimise your job list as much as possible and only have the MINIMUM staff required to run your prison, allowing for enough guards to escort prisoners wherever they need to go or to their cells or to solitary AND man your patrols and stations.

I'm sure there are other ways but I can't think of them at the moment.

yes, avoid everything that put an error message out, like unfinished rooms or not usable object (like missing power or water)
IIRC the game uses only one core, no matter what you want it to do it will still only use one core.

You can increase PA's priority on that core but if its maxed out anyway you wont see much benefit.
Also, don't have land expansions as they increase the complexity of the prison thus slowing it down (a lot).

I hate how we're forced into that. >< Game is in dire need of mutli-core support, the worst thing to do in a creative game is to limit the players freedom. :( I can only imagine the beast of a prison I could make if only the game used all 8 of my cores!

Sadly pretty much all games only use 1-2(some 4) cores still which is odd considering we have the hardware to support up to 8(and it's been around for quite a few years now). Thus why I have not upgraded past my 4 core processor, and wont until games start supporting even that. A note to PC users, sometimes it jumps WAY ahead of the game devs and hardware is not utilized for a long while after it releases. I always see people griping about not having the latest tech or hardware for a PC, when it really doesn't matter lol.

Im using an HP Pavilion intel i7 with Ubuntu Mate Installed. I remember having a huge lag problem till I was told to create a swap partition. It does lag at 1000 prisoners but at 1000 prisoners, who cares - it is welcome.
