Dormitory with bunk bed still only holds one prisoner
So I had 60 cells for maximum security prisoners. I upgraded 15 of them into dormitories with a single bunk bed in each dormitory cell. However, the maximum security capacity did not increase, and stayed at 60. Moreover, there is still just one prisoner in each cell. I even tried putting two bunk beds in some cells, and it still doesn't work for me. Thanks.

By the way I accepted an extra 15 max security prisoners in order to fill the bunk beds, but they all got put into the holding cell.

Make sure you have increased the cell size to accomodate the extra prisoners per cell.

As Stako said you need extra space. To clarify you need 4 squares of space per prisoner in the dorm. So if you have 4 prisoners per dorm (2 bunk beds) you need a room area (excludng the walls) of 16 squares.

If you have smaller cells does it work then?

Edit: i just tested that, and it wont work

I guess that means that cells and dorms are different enough in the code of the game that the upgrade for SMALL CELLS doesn't apply to DORMS...

Yeah, hopefully they will edit that in a future update

A 2x3 squares cell should be able to hold 2 prisoners tbh. The only reason against it should be graphically because the prisoners will look like they are hugging. Maybe have one inmate lay in bed during the day if they have to be in cells. If you translate the game space of 2x3 squares to real UK prisons then it checks out. Also IRL UK prisoners lay on their bed, on top of their blanket, during bang up at day time.

(I keep saying UK prisons because I can't say how U.S. prisons are run.)

Jst make a huge f*cking room, throw like 10 bunk beds in there, TVs, radios n such.
The inmates'll get rivacy needs retty bad, but they wony riot

Thanks guys! I assumed 2x3 was large enough, since the guy made some 2x3 dormitories on the Update 1 video. I do agree that the small cells update should affect dorimitories, though.

Yeah, I also changed over many rooms to bunks and it changed nothing... just cost me a lot of money and time. I don't see how I can have 1x3 cells for a single inmate, but 2x3 isn't large enough for 2. This SHOULD be changed.

for small cells you need a lawyer and have to research small cells.

That's because dormitories are dorms NOT cells. It bothers me too but all in all I use cells with 4 squares anyway to include a shower in all cells so it works to be slightly smaller to use dorms since I don't need dividing walls.

i've made some calculating:

i've calculated the size for 14 3x1 cells. i need there a block of 9x15 (including outer walls). This results in an inner size of 7x13 = 91squares. 91square / 4 square/inmate = 22,75 prisoner (rounded down = 22). so you can hold about 50-60% more prisoners at the same area as the small cells. So its a really nice option to create high quality dorms for prisoners with good behaviour. It also is a better option than holding cells, as in your holding cell your bad guys will be collected

Just a thought, the smaller cells upgrade should allow us to set a size capacity for dorms under the policy menu. Maybe smaller cells should be reflected as a minus to cell/dorm quality ie a 3x3 cell with 2 bunk beds should allow 4 inmates but at a cell quality penaly. Perhaps -1 quality for every tile taken away from the min 4 tile preset, and only after small cell research is done. Lavish dorms with smaller presets would even out due to crowding. Also making privacy needs go up faster could be an added penalty.

They should quite simply add a second tier of research in Small Cells, called Small Dormitories.

Because I actually think it's pretty much BS to require 4 squares per prisoner. There's just no reason for it.
