How many janitors or cleaning people should I have?

My prison is filthy. When it was smaller, it was kinda dirty, but still had the usual stains here and there. Now that my prison is getting bigger, nearly every room is filthy. Every cell is dirty. Every room has stains all over. I've assigned several prisoners to the cleaning rooms and hired quite a few janitors, but at best it gets it marginally more clean.

Anyone got any tips for me?

All depends on your room sizes, number of drains, prisoners, distance in between them.
You can probably go at a rate of 1 janitor per 15 prisoners approximately. A bit of experimenting is necessary, requirements aren't always the same. Prisoners on cleaning duty not included.

Another question is how many prisoners you are employing to clean. I typically do 1 full room (20 prisoners 5 hours a day) per 300 prisoners and have betweeen 5 and 25 acual janitors.

I do closer to 1 Janitor:16 Prisoners, but anything in that area should work.

as many as you can afford, however you can never afford as many as you need

300+ inmates in my last prison and well.... you have to give up on some things, clean floors is one of them.

Then you have severe mismanagement going on.

If you have prisoners assigned to work details in the cleaning cuupboards, you will need many hours as prisoners are slower. I have 8 hours a day(3 in morning, 3 in afternoon and 2 in evening) for work. This also allows time to schedule the classes and programs that are 3 hours long.
