assign prisoners to eat at the canteen? SOLVED

straight forward question, iv played this dozens of times as u can see by my play time. but now nothing is working at all. how do i assign each person to a certain canteen, its clear that they broke the automated way it used to do it. or should i play something else till its patched?

I used to be able to start building a large holding cell at the start, then build the offices and then the canteen. everything is there but both the canteen and the holding cell keep saying i need to assign prisoners there.

Nothing is broken, there is probably another problem at hand.
First of all:
Make sure your prisoners can reach the canteen without being able to escape. Fenced in and with Staff or Jail doors is mandatory.

Make absolutely sure that THIS is not your mistake.


Check the deployment, is the canteen zoned with the correct security rating, is there a Staff Only zone in between maybe?
Logistics views, is the cellblock connected to the canteen, is the kitchen connected?

i have just started a new game, played this dozens of times till about 200+ prisoners till the game got too slow and the program maxed out its ram. then restarted each time. I have no zones, there is only one fence with a large jail door at the front, everything is "roomed" properly, the food is being made and gotten ready. my prisoners as it says "need to be assigned a canteen" the canteen is about 7 squares away from it with a normal door.

Everything is as i usally do it, and it always used to work.

Re-check your fence once more, when in doubt completely demolish the canteen and rebuild it if you see no other option.

Look i just want to know how to "assign prisoners to eat at the canteen" thats all, how do i do it manually i removed both doors and the same result, they simply will not walk to it. there is zero in the way they are 10 squares apart.

You can't - this is handled automatically when the conditions for security are met. If you do not have a wall or fence all the way around your prison the game will not consider your prison secure and thus will not allow prisoners to make their way to the canteen to eat. Therefore: Build a prison fence to close off access to the perimter of your prison. Also screenshots would help us help you.

There is the Logistics screen with Food distribution. You need to unlock Micromanagement for that.

But Insecure or improperly zoned aras overwrite manual food distribution.

fixed it a tree was in the way of a fence part even tho they couldnt fit through it to escape, it still didnt allow it to function. thanks for the help tho

make sure the canteen and the kitchen are separeted by a staff door not a normal one

When I see "No prisoners assigned to this canteen" it's because my holding cell is empty. If u want to move the line from the cells/holding to that canteen u have to grab the line where it lands on the cells/holding as opposed to grabbing the line that is in the canteen room.
