When to use doors, staff doors and jail doors?
Hi folks.

I was wondering, on what sort of buildings do you use regular doors over staff doors or jail doors?

I assume areas of high traffic for non-guard staff, such as kitchen to canteen, storage room, morgue etc would be better suited to a staff door?

Regular doors would be good for things like common room, library, chapel and other non-secure areas?

What about workshop, mail room, laundry or other work areas prisoners can go? I am not sure of staff door or jail door for workshop, as I assume that's a common area for getting contraband weapons?

Metal detectors for rooms like workshops, kitchens, canteens and cleaning cupboards are what I go with. Staff doors require a staff member to open it, likewise with jail doors and guards.

I generally just use jail doors on individual cells, staff doors on things like storage and access to Delivery and Garbage. Mail rooms and laundry don't add to contraband, so regular doors are probably fine for them.

You can force jail doors open and close them with the lockdown button. Good for riots

I don't ever use regular doors. Too risky. No prisoner passes any door without some sort of permission (excepting tailgaters lol). Helps sometimes to contain disturbances. So to keep things moving, I wire almost every door up with a servo. Jail doors for prisoner areas, which is most places - staff doors for non-prisoner areas or lower-risk rooms. The guard manning the console knows when to open the door and when to keep it shut, more or less.

Regular doors for any kind of area fully open to prisoners. Common rooms, shower rooms in cell blocks, and the chapel.

Staff doors for any area that prisoners are not allowed into without an escort, but non critical areas (hallways leading to offices and such) and then I use guard locked doors on cells, armouries and areas completely off limits, like the security areas.

I prefer using a solitary or jail door with a servo connected to it. Whenever someone walks up to it it opens.

As you can see it's very much a matter of choice. I prefer to use regular doors for everythingI can: The entrences to all reform/educationa programs my yard, heck even min sec cells I'll just throw a regular door on. I use staff doors for offices and entrences to staff only areas like my forestery, jail door on max sec cells, and any entrence to the out side. I use the doulbes on any double wide hallway for setting my sec lvl zones, but other then the entrence I typically lock them open. I hate waiting around for gaurds to open them for prisoners, it only irritates everyont concerned.

My usages

Normal Door: Showers, Yards, Common Rooms, Library, Shop
(i often replace it with an always open Jail Door or Staff Door so i can emergency close it)

Staff Door:
Offices, Kitchen, Storage, Infirmary, Morgue
(lots of traffic where Cooks, Workers and Doctors walk)

Jail Doors:
Cells, Cell Blocks, Hallways to split them in Deployment areas but then put it on always open, Prison Entrance with automatic door opening,

if you ever had a 900+ prisoner max sec prison it gets very clear where to use which door, in case of a riot all people behind normal doors are likely to get murdered, staff doors might get broken fast, jail doors will hold them of a bit.

Regular door to a shop? Big no no for me. The wares inside have a price tag - Putting in a door will let anyone sneak in and steal whatever they want without paying for it.
