Yard and exercise
Hi guys!

Just got back into PA after the full release and just started up a new prison.

I am having an issue with the yard. When I last played prisoners would run round the yard to take care of their exercise need. Doest seem to happen now :( Is it a bug or am i forced to build weights and stuff to take care of it?

The prisoners are in the yard but just milling around, none of the crazy sprinting of old.

Any ideas?

I am not sure what makes that happen, but I think it has to do with floor type and perhaps shape of the yard.

Odd. Ive tried it with grass and gravel.

Grass and gravel are slow surfaces. Try it with a fast one such as concrete or paving tiles.

I will give that a try and feed back! That would make some sense

I noticed this today too. The prisons I built a few days ago would always have guys running around in the yard exercising, but in the prison I built today absolutely no one does that. I had to install exercise equipment to get them to meet their exercise need. I have no idea what the difference is.

Just changed the floor to concrete. Still no excercise taking place. I dont have any mods running so its not that. Perhaps its a change that was made?

Not much insentive to build the yard now, when the exercise equipment can just be placed anywhere

I noticed that now I have some guys exercising. My yard before had grass ground. I removed it all and put back dirt. Maybe they only exercise on dirt?

I have grass and they run around mine.

Maybe its the size of the yard? What size are your yards?

One of my yards is 7x11 and one is 11x11 now. When I noticed no one was exercising the yard was only 5x5 or 5x6, but there were a lot less prisoners too.

I think it has to do with prisoner density, a 21x21 yard with about 30-40 prisoners in it has them running around exercising, a 7x7 with 50 prisoners does not. Both have grass and concrete block walkways.

Im running quite a small yard with only 20 prisoners, new game and all. So that should be fine. In the past ive built them the same and had zero problems. Its tight on money to be buying equipment for prisoners early on.

From the screenshot you can see the need for exercise is very high. But they are not using the yard to jog or whatever it is they do

Got about 12 prisoners in there. No idea why they arent using the jogging feature. Annoys the crap out of me D:

Make the yard much bigger? Fences are cheap.

Curious. I've had prisoners exercising in my yard, such as it is. Most of the time they never even get to go to the yard, they're already in solitary. However a few manage to behave for more than six hours, or they've been here so long they actually serve their solitary terms and behave for a couple of days, which is when I saw two laughable tubs of lard running in circles around the tiny perimeter. I didn't even know they were jogging, exactly, though that's what it looked like.

This yard has no exercise equipment or anything, no surface. It's just "Yard" and it's only there because I needed it for the grant.
