How can I edit my prison file so I can change my warden type?

there was a warden types, but I think you only got choice when new game in sandbox. There is 5 kind of warden I recalled.

All the wardens have only upsides. The one who doesnt have an upside is just neutral. Wardens need to be balanced - nobody is perfect - Wardens need a downside to balance out all that extra money or dicipline they are dispensing.

search for "BEGIN Wardens Warden 0 END" where the 0 can be a different number depending on your warden,
Enter 0 for the default warden.
1 for "The Lobbyist"
2 for "Rita"
3 for "J.W. Periwinkle"
4 for "The Pacifier"
5 for "Saphara Acknova"
Save file and re-open your prison, your warden should be changed accordingly.

in your save file of your prison (open with notepad++) default location is C:/users/username/appdata/local/introversion/save if i'm correct. You can also type %appdata% in the search bar of windows 7 or higher. This will bring you to appdata roaming, then just go back and select local -> introversion and so on

you'r welcome :) I was looking for the same, and knew it had to be in the save. Then i just made some new empty maps with different wardens and checked for changes where warden was mentioned, then i noticed the number differences :) Happy escaping/building

Do these run your prison different??

yes, check their special traits when building a prison. The default warden does nothing, but the others have special traits, like being a punisher -> reducing the legendary's etc count, or a corrupt warden (5) which sells the contraband found for some profit etc.

I thought the custom wardens sounded cool until I realized all the new ones gave straight up bonuses and no penalties. Kinda felt lame, I'd prefer they had downsides to balance them out.

If I use cheats to change the warden, will it affect how I get achievements or get them at all?

I started off with "The Pacifier", sold my prison, started a new one and it gave me a default Warden, without giving me an option to pick a new warden. Unless I missed the option, I'm pretty sure this was overlooked.

i think you overlooked it, but i'm not sure. When selling a prison you just open the "new prison screen" with a different starting balance (the sell price) The grants etc for a new prison are also back :) I think you can still get archievements, i don't think the game notices "out of game" changes to the save file ;)

speaking sell prison, do fund/money carry over to other game?

Yes, its added to your "prison value" and recent escapes/deaths are penalized. You also need to own 100% of your prison (buy back all shares) first
