Escape Mode - Solitary, even on the third speed, takes forever.
Having to wait ten minutes on the fastest speed after making a mistake is very, very frustrating.

I get that this is a game and there needs to be a challenge, but waiting for ten real life minutes because of a small mistake is boring.

Is there any way to speed this up?

Well, consider it a learning experience.
I made that mistake the first time too, so from now on you know to keep one reputation point in your bank to skip the punishment.

I havent ventured into the escape mode. It takes a reputation point to skip punishment?

If that is the case, cause some trouble if in solitary to get that point so you can skip?

You can't cause trouble in Solitary, you're cuffed. No magic legendary cuff breakers in Escape mode. Clearly, what Frazzledragon mentioned is the way to go - get a reputation point in the bank and keep it unspent. Usually you earn one for whatever gets you in there, but not every time - I've been glad I had one unspent before.

Weren't you supposed to be able to skip punishments in Escape mode? As shown in the last pre-release video.

That is what we were chatting about above. There is a skip, but requires you to burn a reputation point it sounds like.

That's... kind of silly.

I haven't really tried, but I don't think that you can cause trouble without gaining some rep points (hit your toilet once? 1 rep earned. Trespas? 1 point earned) so I think you are supposed to always be able to skip punishment. Unless you spend that point immediately to upgrade your character you should be fine.

Edit to add: What did you do to get serious solitary time without earning any rep points?

Getting rep points is easy. You literally have to punch one object, like a telephone, and then you have enough points to skip through the punishment. Hope this helps :)

I've found myself cuffed without getting a rep point. OP is valid.

Hmm, I can't recall if I HAD TO wait out a solitary. Maybe I'm just thinking of when I got dragged to bed.

Yeah, punching stuff gives me reputation, but it also gets me in solitary.

If I don't want to wait 10 minutes for my virtual character to be able to do something, I have to spend a reputation point.

If I want to use my reputation point later, I'll have to wait ten minutes in real time so that I can save it up.

So? Earn more than one, spend one and get out with one. Easy. Plus there is time compression...

Having 1 rep point means you don't spend it. Get mo.

The mechanic is clear - cause a enough trouble to get 2 or more rep, use 1 point to skip punishment, repeat until your character is walking god. The game gives you the choice to alternatively invest ages of real time for minimal benefit.

You can become an omnipotent walking god by editing the save file easily enough (open the save file, go to where it says BEGIN ReputationPoints, and either add a line "Total 9001" or edit the existing line), but I think we're better off to leave that as an option rather than the default.

What's time compression?

It's what you called Third Speed I believe. Fast time.

Yeah, it's still too slow. It's about a minute per hour, so a 5 hour solitary = waiting and doing nothing for a few hours.
