Once you figure out how to make money in this game you pretty much have an unlimited income for all future prisons. When you use the sell feature it starts a new game with all of the profits from your old one.
If you keep backup copies of your most successful prisons you can sell copies of them at any point to start a new prison to experiment with at pretty much any income level you want.
And that's all assuming you play legit.
Once you realize how to build successful prisons and flip them for whatever profit you also realize it's much faster to just edit the save game file and start a prison with any amount of money you want; and quite frankly there's no reason to feel guilty about it because: I already know how to make unlimited money from gameplay and than flip it into a new prison by selling.
Also: you could avoid all of this entirely by just turning on unlimited money if you are willing to cheat.
Most of my new prisons have several hundred million in starting funds unless I'm intentionally limiting myself for a particular goal.
There's some 500+ guys in there, and a bunch of them die every other day.
They don't get clean clothes, have no showers, nor anything that allows them to do any activity other than start riots and kill each others. The only thing they get access to are a couple of toilets to satisfy the holding cell requirements, and barely enough food to prevent them from starving.
Make them max, supermax, or whatever you like, and make sure that there aren't enough solitary rooms for their category, that way they'll remain handcuffed and scared for at least a day, which is enough to avoid losing due to criminal negligence.
24 hours in solitary for murder? I usally do 72 hours for murder, serious injury and attacked staff 48 hours for destruction, 24 hours for weapons found on prisoner or in the cell, 48 hours in lockdown for escape atempte, 24 hours in lockdown for being in possesion of narocotics and 12 hours in lockdown for luxury's. And that's for my standered prisons. If I make a miserable prison? Double all those timers (but have beds and toilets in solitary cells so they don't instantly make trouble again before they sort out their needs).
