Experimental: Performance Improvements
In addition to the Update 4 features, we have also implemented some experimental new performance enhancements that should make the game run better on virtually everyone's PC. However there is a chance that some backwards compatibility has been lost as a result. We have made this build available on a branch - you will have to opt into it to try it. Please let us know if this special version works for you, and especially if it gives you problems.

To opt into this branch:
- Right click on Prison Architect in Steam
- 'Properties' then 'Betas'
- Select "performancetest" from the dropdown menu
- Wait until Steam downloads the update
- Run Prison Architect.
- To verify: In the bottom left of the main menu screen, you should see the version text as "Version Update 4 PERF"

I tested it on my AMD FX 8120 at a 1000+ inmates prison. No mods enabled.
With Update 4 I got 7 fps on average.
With the performance BETA I got 14 fps on average.

I think the very common community appreciates the effort in any attempts improving the performance of the game but this is still far away from what we expect so far (btw please don't make a point that from 7 to 14 fps was a 100% improvement ... it's still a flip-book at a certain point). Keep up the great work and please focus on PERFORMANCE!

Uhm.. maybe you should look over the min specs again... Surprised it runs at all

Processor:Intel Core2 Duo 2.4Ghz or Higher / AMD 3Ghz or Higher
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:Nvidia 8600 / Radeon equivalent (2009 era)

My specs are way over that. Pentium III is a 3, higher than Core2 Duo, which is 2.
I have 256 MB of RAM, thats 640 times 4GB, M is after G in alphabet!
Only thing is the graphic card, 5200 vs 8600 but they said this game is not graphic intensive.
gb are bigger mb are smaller
1000 mb = 1gb
Pentium III is older and slower

Coolpepper has a strange sense of humor, and often i have no clue whether he's serious or not, but for once I believe that he knows about MB and GB.

i5-4440/GTX-760

With an early version of my prison (485 inmates)

Vanilla Prison Architect = around 20 FPS
Performance Beta = around 35 FPS

With the most recent save (1007 inmates)

Vanilla = around 10 FPS
Beta = around 15 FPS

Still some way from ideal, but a step in the right direction.

well the perfomancetest runs really much better. At one of my test prison with some backup generators i got an performance boost of factor 8. (connected powergrids with some power switches that switches automatically with some logic gates)

Please tell me you are trying to make a joke?
If not, you really need to read up on basic computer terminlogy before someone rips you off when you buy any computer hardware/software.
