But, I'd say normally around 4-6 generators. Usually 1 or 2 for the kitchen, 1 or 2 for cells, and 1 or 2 for workshops/laundry. I also normally put them all in the same area of the map so it's a bit like a puzzle trying to route the wires where they need to go. But, I have barely played since update 3, so I don't know how all the new heating stuff will effect the average usage of my prisons.
I could build a prison with just 100 people and absolutely insane power useage, or completely redundant generators that I only built because I have too much money and am very scared of electrical overload events.
